Out of the branches of the military, which would you say has the best on-base housing?

My husband is joining the navy and I am curious. I cannot find a floor plan or picture anywhere. I have only ever been to the marine base in Beaufort, SC. My uncle is a pretty high rank (I think he's going on 30 years or so), but I don't think he's an officer. I'm not really sure though. There were even different types of housing on that one base. So, any information on naval on bases housing?

It depends on the base, some Army post I have been to out shine almost all the Air bases I have been too.

The last base I lived on I had a 30 year old town house that lthe basement leaked when it rained, no central air and the section was nick named the ghetto. It was an Air Force Base by the way.

Depends on where you get stationed and his paygrade. Some bases (AF) or posts (Army) have new and old houses to choose from. Also, how many members are in your household...just you and your hubbie or do you guys have children and need a larger size house w/more bedrooms etc.

It will depend on were your station. The Air Force is suppose to have the best housing, but the people on the Army bases near by where I'm at have it better. Like I said it will depend on where your station at.

Overall, probably the Air Force, they started on the family welfare kick, before the other services did.

But all service branch's are now upgrading housing.

And you can still find great housing and horrible housing in each service branch.

And alot of times, you will find both on the same base or post.

There is tremendous variation. The COs of the big and old army bases, such as Knox, live in mansions. The CO of a WWII era base might live in a small house with exposed 2x4s in the tiny closets. Housing in a northern old base was duplexes with car ports, while there is a base in Hawaii with free-standing houses with garages. Some places have a severe shortage of housing and you will almost certainly have to live in town and others have plenty of housing available. If hubby gets assigned to a ship you may be inelligible for base housing. If that is the case, then hubby will get a housing allowance to help.
