Out of all the children who go missing, if one set of parents dominate the media...

...and become celebrities, to? find their child, does it take away the emphasis on searches for non-famous missing children, whose parents were poor, discreet, shy, or unable to manipulate the media?
For example, in the UK, a couple have been celebrity superstars all over the world, and attracted huge donors to a trust fund to help find the kid, which they have used to pay off their mortgage. Their child, Madelaine McCann is now given prominence in many countries, above missing children of that country's citizens
Yes, all missing children are searched for by police, but in this case media attention has resulted in a huge trust fund, a huge reward offered, the worlds' best detectives hired, and the child's face as known around the world as Muhammed Ali's was.....when other missing children get none of this

People are also very suspicious of the McCann's at this stage as well, there is just something not right about them, their story has far too many holes. Whether they were directly involved in their child's disappearance or not they should never have left three children alone in an apartment in a foreign country
You can bet that if it were a lower income working class family they would have been hauled in for questioning straight away for sheer neglect above all else.

The sad thing is that child may never be found and we may never find out what really happened either.

The media are generally only interested in missing children who are cute and, unfortunately, white. Ugly ones from poorer families are often overlooked by them. The police, of course, look into any serious crime.

I think kids who go missing once they are reported the emphasis on finding them will generally be how it is for any other crime the police has to investigate.

which also means it is down to how good the individual force is in the first place.

the media on the other hand has an agenda and a criteria to fulfill before they'd report any crime, so if the 'story' fits it'll be aired/printed.
