out of 3 bike pedals, what is better? and why?

spd pedals, speedplay, or eggbeaters?

also are all 3 compatible with road and moutain shoes?
also im on a budget, and the cheapest speedplays i found were about 100
i need a pedal for long rides, something i could use to bike to school with regular tennis shoes,
CORRECTION: i need a pedal for long rides, AND something i could use to bike to school with, in regular tennis shoes
