We are in Texas and it is on average 98 degrees every day here right now and have an A/C Unit that works really good for the most part until recently....I was home all day yesterday and in the morning i turned the a/c to 78 it stayed on 78 all day and it was cool enough and nice, at about 7:00 i looked at it and i still had it on 78 and the temperature was 81, no windows or doors had been opening or closing, absoultly nothing changed. So at 10:00 it was still on 81 and we turned it down to 73 and finally over night it went down to 73 but what could be wrong, obviously it is not working correctly, any ideas?
No rude people Please!

I wouldn't expect it to hold exactly 78 degrees. It may be that the sun was beating down on the room with the thermostat.

Brit if you are able to find a pocket thermometer or another mobile thermometer of some type, measure the air temp coming out of the 2 or 3 way supply diffusers (registers or grilles). Then measure the air temp at the return( air where the filter is).
If the difference between your measurements is around 18-20 degrees, there is probably nothing wrong with your unit.
However,if the difference between your two measurements is a lower number, something is wrong.
If it is a low number, check and see if the outside unit is running.
FYI,it was still 100 degrees outside at around 8:00 pm last night in many parts of Texas.
Good luck

HVAC Tech.: Your unit will not hang ice-cycles from the ceiling it was not designed to do that. You probably have a humidity problem, The unit has trouble removing all that water from the air later in the day as the humidity rises the unit will get behind then as it dries the air it will catch up. Hope that helps!
