C catx Guest Feb 6, 2009 #2 Its a vaccuum syphon, so you can syphon things with it provided you can get the full 12" of the main tube part submerged to get the suction going. I gather you have one of these and no fish tank?

K koolblu53 Guest Feb 6, 2009 #3 That is exactly what it is used for. The suction picks up the grave and separates the dirt from the gravel or substrate, the dirt goes with the water flow into a bucket and the cleaned gravel stays in the aquarium.
