Otakon 2009 Discussion Thread

I shall be there, dutifully filing as much copy as I can type up. Should be an interesting con this year, providing everything works right. I like the J-guest list a lot more than past years.

Got my pre-reg ticket today, and was that line loooong. It wrapped completely around the building, and I was one of the lucky ones; as time went one, a huge block of people had been formed in front that you had to start in before the wraparound line. But anythings better than trying to face the line tomorrow morning...Those poor souls...

Anyone know how much a ticket cost for only 1 day and not a weekend pass? I want to go saturday and had no idea this was actually going on the weekend I was going to visit people.

It seems that this year you can only pay $65 for the full weekend. You can't buy Sunday-only or any other limited discount. They've said on the website that they can't support it this time around.

Sure, why not use this one...title changed.

These are industry panels on the schedule that may yield news:

Bandai Entertainment: Friday, 7/17 at 9 PM
FUNimation: Saturday, 7/18 at 10 AM
Madhouse: Friday, 7/17 at 12:30 PM
Aniplex TBA Panel: Friday, 7/17 at 2 PM
Aniplex Industry Panel: Friday, 7/17 at 3 PM

Confirmed licenses so far: Kannagi (Bandai) and 4 Case Closed Movies (FUNimation).

And whoa, Leiji Matsuomoto is there in person...

Casshern, I'll probably import the region 1 DVRAB. It's currently being sold sub only in Australia by Siren Visual, who only release things with dubs if they existed prior to them picking up the license. Plus they're pretty terrible at DVD authoring. As far as I am concerned, only DVRAB with dubs are any bit worth supporting.

Eden of the East, I have high hopes for. Hoping Madman will pick it up for Australian distribution.

It was funny. A lot of people who were in Video 6 where I saw it were busting out laughing. We have Sgt Keroro saying "homeboy" and "homeslice" a few times but the dub wasn't terrible.

There were a few people there today but I ran out after episode 2 was over. So far, the dub's fine with me but now I wished I had stayed to hear Giroro, Kululu and Dororo in English as well as the other Pokopenians.
