OTA update gone wrong? (PICS)

Check THIS out! This is my wife's Eris. This afternoon, she set her phone down for a few mins, when she picked it back up and unlocked the screen, she didn't recognize anything. Her usual Android 1.5 and HTC widgets were gone and replaced with the menus pictured.

On the phone's about phone section, it still says it's running 1.5.
What do you think?
 
was the Eris the one that has the theme options? somebody the other day had a phone that had all the icons change to something childlike I wonder if this is the same?
 
My wife did download a toddler lock app that plays tones and shows pics when our little girl plays with it. There's an unlock code on it that my wife put in where she just taps the 4 corners to exit out of it, but we didn't notice anything about a kids theme with it.
The unlock code doesn't seem to work on any of the screens.
 
sorry I didn't mean any specific app. but rather the phone may have various themes in the settings. the fact the lock screen doesn't work makes me think it did some sort of reset.

just be warned I've never even seen an Eris so this is all speculation.
 
i dont see anything wrong with it????? help me here. check the downloads in the market for what apps are installed. also, check in your setting if there are any theming options. it does have htc's sense doesnt it? after all, a dropid eris is a hero. maybe your wife and you have gotten used to sense and accidently switched it into the andiod os?
 
The Eris has different preloaded "Scenes" to choose from. You can also customize any of the scenes or make your own and save it with a name of your choosing. Each Scene has various widgets and shortcuts on each screen based on presets. Your question did get me thinking so I started the toddler lock app and when I exited out of it, I was presented with a new menu that said "Exit to:" and the two selections were "Home" and "HTC Sense". Upon selecting HTC Sense, all of her screens and settings returned.
I guess the "Home" selection takes the UI to just Android specific menus with none of the HTC options. Very interesting!
 
Simms22, you are absolutely correct. We are used to using the Sense UI and when she accidentally switched over to the Android UI, none of the scenes/themes would work. I hadn't seen any methods for switching over to the Android UI anywhere yet so I wasn't aware of what it looked like.
 
yeah problem solved. Thanks fellas. Now that I've got hers back to normal, I'm going to tinker with mine a bit and start digging into it some more. I have no problem resetting mine again if necessary. :-D
 
id just rather you didnt break it! but you should hang around here anyways. maybe learn something cool about android or just to chat. btw, welcome to rabroad.com
 
I meant break as in how his wife's phone was "broken" or as in what every one does atleast once while Modding their phone etc.

perhaps become stuck in a temporary unusable state is a better choice?
 
I had been using the primitive tin-foil hat corner reflector attached directly to the modem and was seeing 3-4 bars consistently with occasional bad bandwidth. I happened to be looking right at the modem when the update hit it, a couple of days ago, and since then, no matter what I do with the tinfoil, the max connection has been 2 bars. The connection consistently cycles between one and two bars, and it looks to me as if the connection is either being dropped or the modem is repolling constantly, as my browser has been stalling once every ten to fifteen seconds.

Accessing the current-status page on the modem itself down not appear to support my concern about repolling or cycled connections, as the connection generally reports a lifetime that matches time since last reboot on the modem.

There is a 'return to factory settings' option in the controls available. Has anyone tried using this feature? I am concerned that the rest might disable the provisioning and won't use that until I know what it does.
