OTA on Flash Phones No GO?

I normally have no problems OTAing w/ my verizon phones, but today a customer brought me a u340 to flash and I used CDMA Workshop since SamsungPST kept telling me wrong password and loaded the PRL.

Well once I did that and the phone restarted I *228'd to make sure it was cricket and sure enough I heard the usual cricket dialog, then I got my money and gave it back to them and they ended up coming back 5 mins later because when they tried to get it activated it went BACK to verizon... Idk what I did to it but it ended up working after another 5 mins and we were able to get it to OTA.

I'm not too sure what was up w/ this, it was just a weird thing that happened today and was wondering if someone knew what happened.

i think its just MEID's that are not cricket phones that wont OTA, cause flashed ESN phone will OTA, my V9 would not OTA but my HTC VX6800 will OTA np and it gets the ROMAing prl and stuff

basically i have an mdn/min pair that are both the same and i use that for all phones i flash. i've only once had a problem using it and even then i think ota was up and down all day.

I decided to activate a V3C With a Cricket MP in Houston and keep it for a few days to get to the heart of the problem.

I found that when I manually set MDN/MIN/SID (PRL 1050) and no roaming (home SID only), the system seemed to work properly.

I then tried *228 and it completed OK! (surprise), it changed the PRL to 1040.

I din't have a chance to reload the MP and try it again. (i sold the phone), so I still dont know why OTA didn't work in first place?

How does Cricket handle this? (do they ship phones with PRL's for the parcticular market? If so, then what si the proper PRL for the Phoenix Aread.

And why is customer service so totally unwilling to even point out the manual activation process when *228 doesn't work? Of four phones I have activated, cricket Dial up support helped the customer with the 1st, no problem, but both in store service and telephone support absolutely would not point out the manual activatation procedures (on Crickets' web site). And it was like pulling teeth to get the MIN out of them we we could use the manual activation.

Well as far as adding stuff i have alwasy been able to until monday came and i cant add on stuff like romaing to peopls accounts anymore on flashed phones, and its via CID, i was able to befor with np, as far as a u340 that is odd cause i can load the PRL on to it and *228 use to work fine on them np but now anything thats flashed for me has not worked, however i will collect more info as the week goes by and into next week,, right now. what im doing now is that i got a V3a from cricket and im switing plans and getting differnt things added on and getting the driffernt PRL corabos and just taking it off the phone lol, so that way if a persons phone wont OTA ill just load the right PRL, yeah its a pain in the *** but heck if it keeps me going so be it.

yeah i was responding to the post above mine about what is a roaming service code. but you also need the correct prl or your calls will be rejected when roaming off the wrong carrier.

I think this still works: go to wap.cricket.motricity.com (no WAP on your account required), click a couple of links until you get the message that you're not allowed to view that page because web isn't on your account. Last I checked, there was a button on that page to have it added to your account for $5/month.

I have recently tried to activate flashed V3c's and K1m's with Cricket MP's in the Houston area.

So far I have been totally unsuccessful in getting OTA to work. I have tried PRL's 1039 (whats in the MP's), 1040 & 1050. with the phone in ROAM mode (standard Network option), I don't even get the OTA recording.

When I set the SID to Home only , 4621, *228 goes into Cricket activation, but says unsuccessful.

If I then set the MDN/MIN/home sid=4621 and set roaming off (Settings, Network, Home SID only) the phones seem to work.

In the Phoenix area I rarely had problems with OTA.

Anybody have any ideas how I can make OTA work in Houston?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.12))

what i always have done when i want to add stuff is call cs, insist its a cricket branded phone and even tho the ppl who i activate with wont do it, ill juz call bak an go to tech support n complain tht i dont have *such n such* service n theyll be all like okay np we can add that to ur plan right away AND EVERYTHING WORKS OUT!

I think it's just something Cricket is doing its like very very durab to be honest. why even let us use non cricket phones if in the end there going to limit what we can do. thats just durab

Cricket ships phones with a non-roaming prl that will work in any market. when a new market(s) launches that requires a new prl they will ship phones with the new prl only to those markets and phones with the old prl to existing markets until they are sold out of inventory on the old prl then all markets recieve hanRABets with the new prl.

fyi prl shipping on the new aws phones is 29040

Um, no. Its actually to idiot-proof the system.

They can control whats on branded phones... for example, all branded phones have 000000 as the spc. All branded phones are 100% compatible.

However, they can NOT control phones they've never had thru their system.
So, for example, you have a sprint branded phone, flashed to cricket, in your hand, with a sprint SPC, and you try to add roaming to it, the OTA will not work, the feature will not work, and who'll be pissed?
You the idiot consumer.
Who will you blame?
Cricket.
Who is wrong?
You... But since you're an idiot consumer, you really dont care, in your mind Cricket is wrong.

Its too much of a hassle. By taking the simple step, and blocking access to certain features if the hanRABet is not native cricket, they solve alot of hassle.

So far this week

5 LG VX8500 OTA no Go

1 LG VX10000 OTA no GO

2 VZW Moto W315 OTA no GO

1 Moto W315 Cricket Monster Flashed OTA ok

2 V3m's OTA ok Incoming MMS no ok, Had a few ppl Refresh accounts and CS as well still not working

1 Cricket Monster flashed V3c OTA ok no incoming MMS, out going ok, Account Reset and still no go.

1 VZW Samsung U340 OTA OK

1) I do not have OTASP issues with flashed phones
2) Yes it is to idiot proof the system and not allow you to easily put unsupported features on phones that are not supported., but you can get the codes added through the billing system you just need to talk to the right people in CARE, or in a corporate store.

3) there is enough problems with customers just not doing the *228 after adding roaming then *****ing when it does not work, this just enhances that problem.

did not read other reponses yet, so this may have been answered.

flashed phones will OTA fine if their spc has been set to 000000

non native cricket ESN's will be rejected by the system if you attempt to add any roaming service codes to the account, no way around that.

ok... to clear this up, i just (5 minutes ago) OTA'd a clean LG 8550 that I flashed this AM (Voice&SMS only) Not only was OTASP successful but it gave the phone an EVDO PRL. I didn't have a chance to check the version I only noticed as I was handing it back to the customer that it had the dual bars indicating EV strength and 1x strength.

edit: actually this only confuses me more as to why i have a Cricket SLVR in my hand that refuses to d/l an EVDO PRL...
