That's true.

My friend had a Ford Pinto that he got as a present for his 16th birthday.
He was less than pleased with it because well...it wasn't a Mustang.
Hehehe. And it didn't have AC. But he wanted people to think that it did
have AC so he drove around on hot days with the windows up. I thought this
was a rather stupid thing to do.

My first car was used and didn't have AC but I wasn't about to sweat to make
people think it did!

Hell, I don't even check my cellphone, even if I hear a text come in.

FWIW, I set one of those up for a friend who is visually impaired. He
doesn't want to use it for Skype or any of that stuff, we hung it from
his desk lamp pointing down, so he can put a book under it and read the
book on his monitor (he has a 54" monitor) and raise or lower the lamp
to change the magnification. Works much better than the magnifier that
he had tried to use previously.

You are aware, are you not, that Google Voice will work with a cell or
land line phone? You give it the number, it calls your phone, when you
answer, then it calls the other end. You should be able to get a local-
only land line for 5 bucks a month or so. Then you can use it with just
an ordinary cordless phone.

We need legislation to the effect that nobody gets charged for incoming
_anything_. It's ludicrous that somebody can cost you money just by
calling you on the phone.

Doesn't matter who it is, rude is rude. No cell phones, iPads, etc. at the
dinner table.

When I was working for a Civil Defence organisation my husband bought me
an emergency cellphone charger that runs from an AA battery. It doesn't
provide a full charge, but it's enough to allow a person to make a
couple of short calls.

Bob, I'm sure you know that it's amazing that anyone would even ask
this question.

Are you trolling, or angling to make a point?

Suppose you'd been invited to dinner at the house of some friends. Would it
be rude to bring along your iPad and spend most of the dinner using it to
read and post on social-networking sites?

My personal gut feeling is that it's appallingly rude, but maybe I'm just
old-fashioned. What say the rest of you?

You're are showing your age. Young kids, teens and adults show a

the way it is.

I guess you could write a letter on some nice stationary.

She would have had a point if she had a need for the phone. It was in
the early 90s, so it was dialup, but I heard him ask if she needed to
make a call or was expecting a call. In her selfish world it did not
matter. It was her line and he was not to use it.

She was one physically ugly woman with a miserable personality. As I
wrote in another post, she fed her family Kraft Dinner and then went to
the restaurant next door for dinner for herself. She was a piece of work.

Anyone who invites you will be thrilled that you're occupied by
anything that prevents them from having be inundated by your incessant
idiotic blathering... they'd probably give you an Etch A Sketch to
keep you occupied.
