Oscars announced! Who will win?

No surprise with most of the nominations , it seems this year LOTR : ROTK will probably score highly consdering the last 2 films have been overlooked.
 
I was surprised by the nominations.

There seem to be some missing from Cold Mountain -
Nicole Kidman - best actress in a leading role
Anthony Minghella - best direction
Best adapted screenplay

I think LOTR will win just becuase of its magnitude and becuase of public pressure - not becuase it's a masterpiece of cinema becuase it's not - it's just another blockbuster. Any director would have produced the same film with that budget.
 
ooooooh - Oscar Game!!! I don't want to play just yet because everyone knows that it doesn't really start until tommorrow when the nominees start shmoozing on the chat show circuit ;)

LoTR hasn't been 'overlooked' - pretty much everyone 'in the know' will tell you that they have been saving the awarRAB for the last film, so it looks like it could indeed be a big winner. I wouldn't exactly say it will be a clean sweep though - a few dark horses are in the mix else.

But God help me if LoTR wins for editing - there'll be hell to pay!!! :mad: :D

No doubt it will do though, thus furthering the 'idea' that the ocsars are self-congratulatory trinkets that bare little resemblance to actual achievement within film :( !

Master and Commander got 10 nominations as well which I was pleased about as it is a great film!

But it is a masterprice , don't forget this film was made along side the other 2 and it isn't any old blockbuster.
It's 3 hours long , hardly your run if the mill blockbuster!

I shed no tears that Nicole didn't get a nod , i'm sure she has plenty more chances anyway.

how on earth is that russel crowe travesty so highly nominated and LOTR:ROTK has no actor awarRAB

the oscars become for farcical in insipid as the years roll on

I'd say Star Wars were the original "blockbuster" that we class today as... I can't think of any films before it that were "blockbusters" as such, but correct me if I am wrong.
 
I'm mucho happy with the nom's for Bill Murray, Djimon Hounsou, Ken Watanabe AND Samantha Morton.

I didn't EXPECT to see Paddy Considine recognised for In America but still...it pangs a little to see my doubts confirmed .

Johnny Depp's nom' is a bit of an insult IMO...he's deserved recognition for many a role, yet they put the bloke up there when he delivers a gimmicky pantomime stylee impersonation of 'Keef' f*cking RicharRAB!!!

Anyway, I reckon Considine's been ignored purely because he isn't 'established' enough...but watch him in the likes of Last Resort, Romeo Brass and 24 Hour Party People and you'll soon see that the guy oozes sheer raw talent. Still, it's nice to see others acknowledged for their work in In America...Morton, Hounsou et al.

On the other hand, American Splendor has been SHAMEFULLY overlooked in pretty much every bloody category. 'Tis a crime that Giamatti didn't bag a best actor nom'.

Being pedantic for a second, but technically all the oscars were for Return of the King only, not LOTR. It's clear however that in reality it's been given a kind of cumulative set of oscars for the whole trilogy, which is more than a bit unfair on the other films.

Still, at least I finally found out how to pronounce "Ngilia" after all those years of seeing her name on the Xena credits. :D

I thought the oscars were a bit of a joke at times last night. It's clear that the people voting, in the catergories they didn't understand, just clicked their favourite film "LOTR:ROTK".
Best editing for a film far too long with a million endings?
Best adapted screenplay for a film photocopied almost from the book and with little cohesion and character development?

It deserved "Best FIlm" etc, but I found a few of the smaller awarRAB misplaced.
 
Does any one else agree with me that LOTR is massively over rated?

I loved it as a book, i loved the Hobbit too, but somehow the film does nothing for me, I think the script was weak in all three of the films, the film seemed really shallow. The cinematography and visual effects were superb, think the actions scenes are exciting and well done. But apart from these scenes i just don't think there is anything there to make it seem cohesive.

Maybe i am comparing it with the book too much, which is a deeply involving story. It would be impossible to convert the book completely.

But i do feel that LOTR as a whole are not great films.
