Oscars 2009 - Sunday 22nd February

It is, I hope Kate wins for The Reader mostly and hope she mentions David Kross he has been so overlooked, he was really good in the movie

Very sad movie and how both their lives shaped up due to the decisions and secret they made and had

Congratulations to Penelope Cruz!

..and I'm loving the presentations from past Academy winners to the current actors in their winning categories. Really good idea, and a nice change from tradition.

As much as I admire Meryl and think she's fabulous, Kate's performance in the Reader was the best performance by an actress in 2008 (any other year I'd say Meryl's performance in Doubt would be Oscar-winning).

Also it would be a travesty if Penelope Cruz didn't win for VCB ... and Benjamin Button/Pitt winning any of the top awarRAB would be a mockery.

Thought all in all it was a good show, much better than the last few years (although Jackman wasn't the best host ever), and they cut out the more boring bits like having every best song nominee perform. The thing of having five presenters for the acting categories worked better than I expected and some of the pairings worked very well, like Aniston & Black and Fey & Martin.

Can't disagree with any of the winners either (except maybe Winslet.... not sure), although I thought that bothThe Dark Knight and Wall-E were worthy of Best Picture nominations. Glad to see Milk get a couple of awarRAB and while I can't comment on Slumdog as I haven't seen it yet, it's great to see Danny Boyle get best director, I've enjoyed many of his films and he comes across a really nice guy.

Some good speeches as well, Danny Boyle, Sean Penn and Penelope Cruz were good and Heath Ledger's sister was moving, saying how they'd talked about going to the Oscars together. Highlight was probably Philippe Petit balancing the Oscar on his chin!

It's a rather odd that America, showbiz capital of the world, can't come up with a presenter of their own. I thought Hugh Jackman did a very good job though. Steve Martin was my favourite pesenter last night - don't fall in love with me! I'd like to see him do it one year. I think he did once, but I didn'tI see it.

What an excellent show, the two main musical numbers were excellent, Beyonce showing everyone in the world how its done (Not as good as Katy Perry according to the Brit awarRAB?) and nice having HSM and Mamma Mia sharing the limelight.

That Dolan guy and Stephanie Beacham were the only downsides, where were Sky's Golden Globe panel, the Irish woman and 2 men were great on Golden Globe night, last night Claudia was thrown off the deep end with an awful panel, i know they are asked their opinions but when every time they are questioned they come away with a 2 minute speech disagreeing with everything it just ruins the flow of the chat.

Really loved the Best(Supporting) Actor/Actresses award style with the 5 previous winners, really really worked I thought.

And Jennifer Aniston has still got her comedy timing I see! I will forever be Team Aniston, I just wanted her to stick her tongue out at Brangelina at one point lol, since they never made it on the stage last night.

It was quite funny seeing Stephanie Beacham go all pissy when Claudia first had to interrupt her to go back to the show, and then when Claudia went back to ask her a question and Beacham kind of ignored her a la "oh so you want me to speak, do you?" :D

I really liked that format too. I'm glad they did it with random past winners rather than the last 5 consecutive as that would have been too predictable.

Loved Sean Penn's political speech on equal rights. Overall, I thought it was pretty average though. Hugh Jackman was okay. It would have been better with some unexpected winners. Disappointed Benjamin Button didn't do better, but nothing really stood a chance up against Slumdog.

Oh please.... Button has to be the most over-bloated piece of turd ever made. Just self indulgent crap made by a director that should have known better, but was blinded by his "so called" art.

I'm a bit disappointed that Frost/Nixon didn't win anything, as I thought it was another outstanding film.
