Oscar Predictions For 2009

Mickey Rourke is an early contender, i believe Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio are possible contenders for Revolutionary Road, the new Sam Mendes film, but hard to say until around December when the first awarRAB by the critics start being given out

Slumdog Millionaire
The Dark Knight
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk

(Though WALL*E, The Wrestler or Gran Torino could bump one of 'em)

It would now be a major shock if Slumdog Millionaire DIDN'T win best picture.
 
I don't reckon The Dark Knight will get a Best Picture nom. I just CAN'T see them giving to a Batman film, no matter how brilliant it is. The Wrestler will probably take it's place in that list.
 
If Kate Winslet is nomianted and doesnt win she will tie the record for most nominations by a female without a win, currently tied between Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter, on 6 each
 
I think The Dark Knight might get a Best Film nomination.

Slumdog Millionaire will win it though - there is not enough time for another film to gain the momentum now.

There is talk of people watching the Slumdog screeners 6 or 7 times, which I can totally understand having seen it once and now being dying to see it again.
 
For us Dark Knight fans we can be peaceful knowing that its being re realeased in America next week to increase awareness of the film, the fact that its now the 2nd highest grossing film of all time and it will have a garunteed Imax Re release every year for the next 5 years.

We will topple the Titanic!
 
After last year's kind of boring ceremony, sad as it may sound I'd really like the "stars" to be nominated this year. Also after 5 Nominations and 0 Wins I think it's about time Kate Winslet won!

These are my predictions, based on "buzz" alone.

The key point about TDK is the billion dollars it's taken. It'd be a surprise if it didn't get nominated as they're trying to make the ceremony more populist in the face of falling tv ratings. On the other hand it'd be a surprise if they nominated 2 summer blockbusters and Wall*E might get the nod. (Ratatouille was apparently only a couple of votes shy of being nom'ed last year.)
 
Australia's reviews are mixed at best- currently on 53/100 on metacritic. It's 3 hours long and moves at the same pace as the continental drift apparently.
 
I don't really understand how many can make predictions when they obviously havn't seen the films. Surely that is just copying lists from magazines?

From what I've seen so far, I'd expect Slumdog Millionnaire to be a strong contender, but it doesn't really have the big acting names (or performances), so they will probably go elsewhere. The Wrestler and Waltz with Bashir are good too. If Happy Go Lucky wins ANYTHING, we riot, complete toss of the highest order.
 
It's more subtle than that, you can pick up on buzz, on films getting nominated for other things, on what industry people are saying on places like rogerebert.com and deadlinehollywooddaily.com. It's just a bit of fun though.

Although of the 15 or so films likely to get nominated for stuff, it's perfectly possible to get 'em all online now. People are watching them.

Really? Wow, that's ace! I personally would love to see an animated film win Best Picture for once, and what better to than a Pixar, so that they are recognised for the masterpieces they are?

Failing that, at least a nomination would be a step in the right direction (it's only ever happened once before, "Beauty in the Beast" back in 93). Moreover, WALL-E winning best animated film is a no-brainer and the Pixars usually scoop the award effortlessly (have only ever lost out to Shrek and Happy Feet).

From the sounRAB of things, Slumdog Millionaire will be nabbing Best Picture (I'm seeing it on Friday to find out what all the fuss is about!).

What about best song? I heard a few from HSM 3 had been shortlisted :D:eek::D. "Down to Earth" from WALL-E has a good chance.

A for best animated short, hopefully Wallace and Gromit will win! :)
