Oscar Predictions For 2009

I love awarRAB so will be in my element in the coming months!

The two best films I've seen this year are The Class and Waltz with Bashir.
Both are almost certain contenders for Best film in a foreign language, a category that most people aren't interested in. But these are 2 superb films and either would be a worthy winner.

I've seen Changeling and I think Angelina Jolie, Clint Eastwood and the film are all strong contenders in their categories although I don't think they will be winners this time.

I would like to see Kate Winslett win if she is nominated for Revolutionary Road which seems likely on 'buzz'.
She is a fantastic actress, a million times better than Kiera Knightley who i think is one of the worst out there. She was out-acted by the bookcase in Atonement.

I'd like to see Leonardo Di Caprio win for Revolutionary Road if nominated. He too has lost out too many times for brilliant performances.

The buzz on Benjamin Button is tremendous and I hope Brad Pitt is nominated.
Cate Blanchett is my favourtie actress so i think she should be nominated every year simply for existing:)

Heath Ledger should get a nod as he was awesome.

I'd like to see Maryl Streep nominated for Mamma Mia simply for making so many people so happy with that film but a Golden Globe win in the musical category should suffice.

Any Oscar predivtions heres mine for the actors nominations

Best Actress

Anne Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married
Sally Hawkins in Happy Go Lucky
Angelina Jolie in Changeling
Keira Knightly in The Duchess
Kate Winslet in The Reader

Leonardo Di Caprio in Revolutionary Road
Ralph Fiennes in The Reader
Kevin Spacey in Telstar

Best Supporting Actor

i agree with the meryl streep nomination! shes already won best actress in the national film awarRAB !!even a oscar nomination would be good !! anyone who can do the splits at 59 deserves an award !!!

LOL Imagine Leo and Kate winning it in the same year. That would be weird but good because as OTT as Titanic was, I thought they were both probably the best thing in it.

Would be cool if they both won the same year.

You missed out Kristin Scott Thomas for her role in I've Loved You So Long... I can never remember when what came out and if it is in time to be counted.

For Knightly, all the clips I have seen of her in that film are frankly quite wooden...

I've not really followed the Oscar buzz so far but Mickey Rourke's been getting rave reviews so far for The Wrestler so I imagine he'll be a strong candidate for Best Actor.

River city rules - if Leo and Kate won it would be as the Americans say 'too cute.'! It would be wonderful.

Happy go lucky irritated the hell out of more people than it impressed. It didn't do well at the box office. I can't imagine Sally Hawkins getting a look-in at the American academy. Bafta nomination maybe, Oscar - no way.

Clint Eastwood is a lock for a best actor oscar nom, methinks.

I totally agree. I'm hoping Slumdog Millionaire wins it. I'm predicting it to be up for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for Danny Boyle as well.

Sean Penn and Sally Hawkins have both won major critics awarRAB, they seem strong contenders for scar noms, the golden Globe noms are out today and should be a strong indicator of who will win or at least be nommed for oscars

I'm a Bafta member (work in the industry) and have loaRAB of screener dvd's to watch over Christmas. We have to get our votes in by January 8th. Baftas are a bit different to the Oscars and Keira and The Duchess are probably a dead cert for a Bafta nom but don't have a cat in hell's chance at the Oscars.

Slumdog will probably be embraced by both. Happy Go Lucky is another dead cert for both. They love Mike Leigh at Bafta. Sally Hawkins is cleaning up with critics awarRAB over in the US so she's probably looking good for the Oscar nom too.

I think Dark Knight might edge in for the oscar thought there's Doubt with Meryl Streep and Revolutionary Road as well. Milk, Slumdog and Benjamin Button are probably highly likely too. Interesting year.

It's a bit early for all this Oscar prediction talk don't you think? 95% of the films mentioned haven't even been released here in the UK!

I'd say wait till late November, then you'll well and truly know what's the real deal and what's not.
