Oscar Nominations

LOL i was just gonna say the same about her!! shes a pathetic actress! nothing special not stunning, not belivable, in fact in pride and predudice was worst in the cast!

Oscar panel been brainwashed by media saying how good she is! everyone i know cant stand her acting! Esp in england she didnt even get a bafta nomination! :D

As much as I loved Brokeback Mountain, I'm hoping for a sweep by Crash.
I never seen the movie when it was in the theater, and I happened to stumble upon a cast interview on Oprah about 4 months ago. I went out and bought the DVD and was blown away.
Some great performances, even by Sandra Bullock, who I ordinarily am not a fan off.

For Actor and Actress I am hoping for a shock win by Joaquin Phoenix who is amazing in Walk the Line. For actress, I'm torn between Reece Witherspoon (Again amazing!) and Felicity Huffman. (I loved Transamerica)

Disappointed Walk the Line didn't get nominated, but at least the cast were rewarded. - Steph

One thing that hacks me off about the oscars is that they nominate movies that havent even been released here yet..

Capote i think is one and Walk the line about Jonny Cash.

Irritating!!

I'm shocked that Brokeback Mountain only opened in 5 cinemas in America. That country never ceases to astound me. :( I'm glad that these are the films that are being recognised by The Oscars next year. Films that are dealing with difficult issues.

My predictions for the nominations in the major categories. I've even gone so far as to put my predicted winners in bold -

Picture - Brokeback Mountain / Good Night & Good Luck / Crash / Walk The Line / Constant Gardener

Director - Ang Lee / George Clooney / Fernando Mereilles / Paul Haggis / Steven Speilberg OR James Mangold

Lead Actor - Philip Seymour Hoffman / Heath Ledger / Joacquin Pheonix / David Strathairn / Terence Howard

Lead Actress - Reece Witherspoon / Felicity Huffman / Charlize Theron / Judi Dench / Joan Allen

Supporting Actor - George Clooney / Jake Gyllenhaal / Paul Giamatti / Don Cheadle / Matt Dillon

Supporting Actress - Michelle Williams / Rachel Weisz / Frances McDormand / Catherine Keener /Amy Adams

Original Screenplay - Crash / Good Night & Good Luck / Squid & The Whale / Match Point / Cinderella Man

Adapted Screenplay - Brokeback Mountain / Capote / History Of Violence / Constant Gardener / Capote

For once this year, I'm very happy with all the expected frontrunners, so I'll be happy if my predictions come true. In a perfect world though, I'd hope Ledger, Gyllenhaal and Williams were the surprise upsets and walk away with acting honours...

Regardless, I think Brokeback, Crash and Constant Gardener will get most noRAB this lunchtime...

Brokeback originally opened in a few theaters, so it was eligible for award season. It's been Nationwide for a while now!

There are a few theaters which are not showing in, mostly in areas of the South and Utah. - Steph

Id actually love judi dench to win!! shes awesome in everything! and they always vote the americans!
I pretty much agree with those but id prefer heath to win best actor! for having the guts to take that part and make it so realistic its haunting!

LOL! Don't apoligize. For a second I thought my theater in Alexandria, Virginia, was one of the chosen 5!! I had to check!!

But your original post still has a very valid point. I don't understand why it is banned in certain southern states.
Utah, I understand. They don't even allow alcohol (in areas). - Steph

Could this be the most boring Oscars ever? I know they are recognising less well known films but really, what's the point if people don't know any of these films. There comes a point where it's just dull.

Which films are you refering to a 'less known'?

I've actually seen the majority of the nominated actors/actress movies as well as all 5 of the nominated pictures. Maybe I'm strange! lol - Steph
