Well, they're out...I was wondering what everyone thinks will be the big winner this year....or what it's worth, here's what I think....
BEST PICTURE
The Aviator: A shoo-in, a perfect piece of film making from a master of the aforementioned art. And if Ray wins, I'll eat my hat and a dozen candles.
BEST ACTOR
Jamie Foxx for Ray.Have not seen the film yet, but feel in all my bones that the voters have been wowed by Mr Foxx to the point where they will lift him on high and announce him to the world to be the great actor that he truly is...see Collateral.
BEST ACTRESS
Tough one to call, but it always is. The actress category is a variable one, but I feel that Imelda Staunton should win it...but won't. The safe bet would be Annette Bening. But my tip is UK's own Imelda Staunton.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Cate Blanchett. No questions asked. Well done to all those nominated, but the golden guy belongs to Galadriel.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Jamie Foxx for Collateral. Yep, he's gonna win 'em both. His performance in this film is a star maker. Assured, well researched, beautifully done. His Max is one of the best protagonists in celluloid history. A man doing what he doesn't want to do and then decides to change things for the better...he hopes.
ANIMATED FILM
The Incredibles. 100%. If Shrek 2 wins then the world is about to end. And if Shark Tale gets it, then the world has ended and we are all stuck in a dream like state where shitty animated films with characters voiced by embarrased actors are given the highest of praise.
BEST DIRECTOR
Martin Scorcese please approach the podium. We are sorry we have treated you badly in the past Marty, but it's taken us, the Academy, over 25 years to realise you're a genius. Here, have an Oscar. We're sorry for all that business with Redford winning for Ordinary People when you should have won for Raging Bull. We're assholes, Marty. Assholes.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Sideways. Have been reliably told this is a wonder. However, given this areas love for programming films into cinemas like Anacondas: Hunt For The Blood Orchid, the chances of me seeing this on the big screen are slim to none.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
John Logan for The Aviator. But the Academy might just remember he also wrote Star Trek: Nemesis. A long shot would be Stuart Beattie for Collateral, which, as you may have previously noted, I think is a genius piece of work.
Open for debate people...!
