yes, Forrest Gump was and is a brilliant film. It gets teased because the lead is a dimwit but in terms of storytelling, acting and cinematography, its fantastic.
I read The Curious Case Of BB when I was at school and always wanted someone to film it, even though it seemed 'unfilmable'. I'm glad David Fincher did it because if anyone can make it work, its him.
I think it's worthy of the nom but Slumdog Millionaire IMO is so good it's the only one that deserves the Best Picture award. Danny Boyle never ceases to amaze me. He's now had four excellent films on the trot (I loved Sunshine, a proper space sci-fi film, though not that many people seem to have seen it, then there's the brilliant Millions and 28 Days Later) and Slumdog feels like the culmination of it all, what he's been building up to. I would love to see him get the best director award.
I try to stay away from all the gushing about his looks, and the reporting of his personal life, which is where I think a lot of the Brad Pitt backlash comes from. He is undoubtedly a good actor, or can be at least, The Assassination of Jesse James proves this. Unfortunately most of his other films go toward proving he can also be magnificently bad actor. Benjamin Button is just somewhere in the mediocre middle. Most of this movie was just plain wrong, and so consciously retreading old ground. It just screams "Oscar please!"
I didn't really like Sunshine, it started out quite well then just seemed to have nowhere to go - it reminded me too much of Event Horizon. And whilst 28 Days Later brilliantly re-wrote and revitalised the zombie genre, I thought 28 Weeks Later (which Boyle produced, I think) was far better. I have heard a rumour though that he plans to make 28 Months Later, which will be set in Russia
I own a lot of films, but it occured to me today when thinking about his latest offering, that I don't own a single film with Brad Pitt in it. This one isn't likely to make the grade either In fact, looking through the long list on the IMDB, I've only seen one or two films with him in, Fight Club and Seven being the main ones.
