Original Aragorn?

Was watching the extended version of the fellowship the other day when it was mentioned that Viggo was not the original choice for Aragorn, but he came in later on because the original choice was deemed t'oo young'. Does anyone know who was?

Are there any websites out there that tell of original choices for big movies, who were either dropped or turned them down?

There's two stories I've heard here: Stuart Townsend, who plays Dorian Gray in League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, was originally cast then dropped. They then allegedly turned to Daniel Day-Lewis who was up for one film but not three-in-one.

I read somewhere that the original Aragorn dropped out of LOTR due to other projects / commitments he had! I bet he wish he never dropped out now!

I did read in Empire a few months back that Townsend was cast as Aragorn, and actually turned up for shooting.

But it was quickly apparent that he was too young looking to play the part, and apprarently he admitted that himself at the time.

So he was chucked out and Viggo brought in. And an inspired choice it was too...
