organising dvds

I just read the thread on listing dvRAB and noticed that some people had alphabetised their collections, some were rather random and poster said they just typed them as thy came out of the cupboard.
I used to alphabetise mine but realised it's rare i look for a specific film, i tend to look for a film to mathc my mood so rearranged them into loose themes - comedy, childrens, fantasy, action, classic and then alphabetised within those themes (blimey i sound sad, i'll ask for an anorak for christmas). How do people arrange their collections? :)

Mine's very scientific. Wherever there's a space on the shelf, that's where it goes. When the shelf space is taken up, I stack them horizontally on top.

Aint bought a DVD for ages, nothing tickled my fancy until the last few weeks but Santa better bring me (although I have no room for them!!!!!!!!

Van Helsing (2 Disc)
LOTR : ROTK (4 Disc)
Little Britain Series 1
Early Doors Series 1
That Peter Kay Thing
Jimmy Carr Live
Star Wars Trilogy

Thats all I want for christmas

I'm a bit of both - I start putting them in order of theme like tigerlilyxxxxx but after about a week of watching them the order goes out the window for about 6 months until I have another 'bored' moment and put them in order again.

For most of the year they follow the gashead method :)

My collection is alphabetised, very anal they stay that way and I also have a list of them all as a word document and access file so I can keep track of them. Having over 250 DVRAB it is the only way to keep track of them all.

You're not half as anal as me. :) I get picked on so badly by my family.

My DVD collection is in alphabetical order, within the different certfications. So you have Us furthest left, in order, disney pixar and disney classics have to be separete. Then series have to go in order... which mess things up a bit, eg. with lotr in PG and 12a. Also, comic book films like Spider-Man and X-men tend to go together, and occaisonally same film actors. I am so anally pedantic. Apparently.

i put mine in Rating order (18 , 15 etc) and then they are in alphabetical, if i have some that all have the Pathe logo on the side they have to be grouped just to make it look better.

i keep my Harry Potter and LORT dvRAB seperate aswell as other special dvRAB like that (shame potter 3 has killed it grr)

I go through phases in sorting both my DVRAB and books. Some weeks I want it in colour, so it looks like a rainbow (which causes problems with my X-men and X-men 2 DVD box set!) and then others I have it alphabetical. The alphabetical depenRAB on what sort fo movie watching mood I am in...actor or title.

Tigerlily, I like the sound of your method, might try that one next.

i used to do it alphabetically, then i re-organised my media collection as the CD collection (which is also alphabetical) is growing a lot. the DVRAB where moved from their shelves and as yet are in an un-ordered heap ;)

My DVD's are a mess.

I've got a load of videos and they're not in any particular order, except for a few that are arranged by director (Stanley Kubrick, Peter Greenaway, Andrei Tarkovsky) and a few by movies and their sequels (Star Wars, Godfather etc.)

I sort mine out alphabetically and then if there are more than one of the same (Smallville, Still Game, CSI etc) then the name of the show sorts it alphabetically and then are sorted chronologically. I really need to start socialising more!!!

God I am also sooooo anal. Firstly they are all alphabetical but then separate sections for film/TV/music. Then I have special sections for certain directors, Kevin Smith/Quentin Tarantino. The TV are then sorted by comedy/sci-fi/cartoon. Then if anyone puts one in the wrong place, god help them.

if i post on here how i organise them im afraid i will embarass myself, but here goes..

i have then in age category so 18 down to U

but then within each age group i have tried to put them in order of colour

it looks nicer that way!!!!

i arrange mine first by genre (comedy, action, horror), then alphabetically, then by how dark the color of the box is (lightest on the left, darker to the right), then by how many hrs/mins the film is, then by surname of the main actor. :):):)

i hope you all realise i am not being serious, lol
