Organic or "Regular"?

I love organic food! I grew up with Hippies for parents, so they are really into avoiding pesticides. It turned out to be a good thing, since I have really bad food allergies, and I didn't need anything funky in my system, even if I wasn't allergic to pesticides. My Grandmother has recently been converted, too, since she started finding red dye in her apples. Unfortunately, she can't afford organic food most of the time, but she wishes she could.

 The organic fruit and veg that my local Winn Dixie carries are very expensive. I don't even look at them.

It costs about $6.75 where I live. It's less expensive than the big name pizzas but more expensive than the cheapies.

I only buy organic fruit and vege, meat and chicken. I find that it's of better quality and I think it tastes better. I also much prefer to know that my cow and chicken were looked after ;)

i tried an organic soy ice-cream once it was ok. i never tried the organic milk ice-cream. it should be good i guess since the organic milk taste better then regular.

Speaking of organic stuff, has anyone shopped at Trader Joe's before? Don't know if you could call it "organic" stuff but they do sell a lot of health stuff. I got addicted to their salad. :thud:

Too bad they only had it in California.

Some supermarkets and food stores that I know do have a section for organic stuff. I don't know about organic fruits and veggies but I'd imagine they'd be a lot more expensive if it intermixed with the regular.

Or Whole Foods. :D

I'm personally not a fan of Trader Joe's. :look:

I like organic ice cream. :) Then again, I also like organic milk, so maybe that's why. :look:

The organic food store near me went bankrupt last year :( I loved that little shop so much, it's very sad that the financial crisis hit them so hard.

Now I have to travel further to get to an organic store. But, a lot of regular supermarkets now carry quite a bit of organic food.

What's it like in the US? Do regular supermarkets there carry organic foods?

Has anyone tried organic ice cream before? I saw it at the store last night but kind of debated on whether to buy it.

I've tried some organic stuff and they're pretty good. :)

My only issue with them is that they tend to be more expensive than regular stuff.

Generally I'm not that bothered but I will buy organic when I can. Organic milk tastes a HUNDRED times better than normal milk though, well worth the money!

I prefer organic. I have a friend who says "a carrot is a carrot"; an organic doesn't have chemicals soaked into it.

What do you guys prefer? :)

I was curious what people's views are on organic food and other products, as sometimes when I say I prefer organic products, I get funny looks :look:

For me, like I said, I prefer organic food.

For years, I never gave it much thought and just bought all my food at a regular supermarket. But I have severe allergies and well....I always give the example of tangerines. For the longest time I thought I was allergic to tangerines, because if I ate one, I would get a swollen lip etc.

Then one day, a couple of years ago, I tried an organic tangerine and nothing happened. No swollen lip, no rash, nothing. I then started trying other stuff which I thought I was allergic too and again, no reaction.

That's when I made the switch. It pretty much convinced me that pesticides and such can really mess up one's body chemistry.

Would love to read some of your opinions! :)
