Well I am currently doing a project on organ donation, and I have to present it and I wanted to insert snip-its of shows or movies (such as Seinfeld, Family guy, etc) into my presentation to add a little diversification to my presentation.

So far I have two snip-its. Seinfeld season 1 episode 2 "male unbonding" when Jerry and Elaine claim to have to apply to become organ donors.

And in Star Wars a New Hope, when C2P0 wants to donate his parts to R2D2 so he could get repaired.

Organ donation is close to my heart because my Sweetie has a kidney transplant. But I can't seem to remember -any- mentions of it in popular culture.

The Star Wars example is not good because C3P0 was not human; he could have given up circuits or components and then brought back to 'life' when replacement parts were available. The droids in Star Wars were overly anthropomorphisized, they were given 'artificial' personalities. There was even some discussion of this in the radio version, which was longer and more detailed than the movie.

But speaking about popular culture, you might also talk about 'Near Death Experiences' (NDEs). These stories have been very popular the last few decades. You know the story, someone 'dies' on the operating table and goes down a tunnel following a light. They see people they know who have already died, sometime across a river or something. And the people say 'Go back! It's not your time yet!' And then the person wakes up.

I have always hated these stories because I suspect they dissuade people from signing their organ donor card, fearing they might be disassembled before they can return. The fact is, organ donation is only done after brain death, and nobody has ever come back from brain death. People who 'die and come back' were never really dead to begin with.
