I just wanted to share my experience with any other women who may be suffering from hair loss secondary to the pill and are at their wits end. Im a 29 yr old female who after 6 yrs on the contraceptive pill decided to take a break from it. After just one week I started noticing some hair loss( a little more than normel after I washed my hair) Over the next two weeks alomost half of my hair fell out. handfulls and handfulls. I couln't run my hands through my hair without loads falling out. It was so painfully thin and distressed me so much that I went to see my doctor. She advised me to have a few blood tests and to get my long hair cut up short to strengthen it( 1 mth before my best friends wedding where I was going to be bridesmaid) She thought that it was probably the drop in oestregen after coming off the pill that caused the hairloss. People often suffer with hairloss after childbirth when your oestregen levels are low. so reluctantly I went to my hair dresser where she cut my hair up 'boy short'. I had some blood tests done as well. My hair dresser advised my to go on a course of hair supplements made by keratase and gave me some intensive hair treatments. My blood tests came back as deficient in vit b12. The pill can also make you vit b12 deficient. My doctor put me on a course of b12 injections.
So nearly 3 mths later, thanks to the hair supplements I have sprouted half a head full of hair. loads of new soft baby hair. I had my friends wedding last wkend and yes my hair was short but I had some fantastic extensions put in for the day and it looked great. so if you are going through the same thing take some solace in the fact that your hair WILL grow back. It just takes some time and a bit of patience.
