Ok sorry in advance for the long winded post.
I have been messing with photography for a while now and last year I bought a holga for B&W. As it turns out I love it. For all the reasons most holga lovers do except for the light leaks and the structural crappiness.
Now I want to upgrade. Not by much.I would like to keep most of the attributes that make the holga cool except for the light leaks and the constant vignetting(i do kind of like the vignetting thoughbut I would like to be able to control it). I want something 6x 6. I hate having to tape my camera all the time too. And I hate the cheapness of the film load and everything. Having to wedge cardboard under the film spools gets old fast. I guess what it boils down to is that I like the pictures I get but I want a better built camera for under say $150.00 . Should I go with 35mm? It is cheaper but I intend to buy a scanner and I already have a developing kit for 120 B&W. I was considering looking for a well built vintage camera but the sizes of a lot of them turn me off. I can get the arista films pretty cheap and develop them myself pretty cheap so now I am pumped about finding a decent medium format for B&W cheap. I am looking for camera ideas. I have a Yashica Elsctro 35 and if they made a medium format that was a simple to use as and built as solid and had just as many options but with not such a sharp lens and gave me that old school soft look I would buy 100 of them(i dont know why when you only need 1 but I would anyhow). How are the cheaper TLRs like the seagull? They are kinda too big for my taste but I would have to compromise I guess. I hear they are heavy too. Maybe one that comes with a kicking leather case with a strap for mobility. Any ideas? My sister is getting married in a few months so maybe I could use it for that too.
