Opinions on book: "A Child Called 'It' "?

"A Child Called It" is SUCH a sad book about this boy that gets abused by his mother. It is a true story (The author wrote it about his life growing up). Anyone read it? I have to read it in my health class because we are talking about abuse. If you read it, what were your opionions about it? I love it so far (only have about 2 chapters left to read!).
