I personally love Monsters (I've had an M900 and an S4Rs). Superbike power and handling, citybike ergonomics, timeless "real motorcycle" looks. And that engine...there is no mistaking that sound for anything else on the road. But the real reasons to buy a Ducati are intangible: you appreciate the character, design and passion that these machines embody. There are several *very* capable bikes in this class which retail for less, and you may prefer one of those. For most Ducati owners, nothing else will do.
I've found both of my Ducks to be solid and reliable, though I did have some annoying electrical gremlins with the M900 (it would drain batteries after 2 days of sitting.) They're also pretty twitchy in the steering department, which is unnerving until you get used to it.
