Opinions of dating a co-worker?

I am starting to see my co worker. We have been "hooking up"/hanging out for about a month now. We are both into each other, and although it is hard because we work in a large restaurant and gossip spreads like wildfire, we try to keep our business to ourselves and deny any accusations. The people at work who know for sure are our close group of friends, which we think are the only people who should know. Last night we were talking about how a bunch of people are starting to find out and I told him how I deny the accusations or just change the subject. Part of me is worried about this though, because how is it going to turn into anything serious if we are always hiding from our co-workers? I just got out of a relationship that was a waste of time, and I don't want this to be the same thing. We both enjoy eachothers company and like each other so it's a tricky situation. Should we just take it slow or should I get out before I get hurt?
