Opinions of 4Kids Voice-Acting

Surprised nobody mentioned Greg Abbey (AKA Frank Frankson and John Campbell). I think he's overused too. I mean he's voiced Raphael, Tristan, Rick Wheeler, Yusei, some of the 4kiRABTV promos, and a bunch of additional voices. Infact, he seems to be typecasted in roles where the character is a racer or rides a motorcycle.

Ironically, I met Lisa Ortiz and Brina Palencia at the same con, and they were both the english voice for Chopper. I actually felt a little bad for Lisa, cause when we talked about her role as Chopper, there was a sense of dissapointment when she said "Yeah, I was the voice of Chopper, before the studio changed...yeah".

Speaking of One Piece, I remeraber a vid on YouTube of, I think, Veronica, Rachel and like oen other person...they were on a panel at a con and I think Veronica mentions her role on the dub. A silence just filled the room.
Think that might alwys be a black sheep of her career.

1. Video quality is fine, but video editing quality is horrible.

2. Selection of voice actors seems to be random guessing. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Ash Ketchum's was good, for example. Yugi's or Luffy's wasn't. More of a using good voice actors for wrong parts.

3. WHY CHANGE THE SCRIPT AND MAKE IT CHEESY?!

My top three opinions on 4kiRAB. In no particular order.

Yeah, most people don't view her role as Robin too well, especially because of the Southern accent. It's a shame, cause if she dropped the accent, she probably would have sounded a little decent, not too different sounding than Robin's FUNi VA. When I met her, she was very nice, but I could tell that she was still somewhat bitter about no longer voicing Ash in Pokemon, and that's understandable.

See, now that fits in with the topic right there. No one should hate on Veronica because she was DIRECTED to use a southern accent. She was just doing her job, and for as silly as the character sounded, I think she made the best of it.

Ah, my bad. It wasn't Veronica. It was Lisa Ortiz who did the voice of..Chopper I think is what she said?

At around 1:45.

Well, if someone doesn't have an ear for it, they probably can't really tell he plays all those characters. I'm usually pretty good at identifying VAs, but I was shocked when I found out he played Serling.

Yep. Really cool.

Here's a link to a pic, so you can see proof: http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic005ny0ik1.jpg

Since he can't really do cons, his autograph is rare. You either have to meet him after one of his concerts, or order one of his CD's directly from him.

Eh...I thought about it, but personally, I'd put him in a second tier alongside VA's like Veronica Taylor, and Mike Pollock--he's used regularly for supporting roles, but he's not ubiquitous (although I'm hearing him all over the place in Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's nowadays). And yeah, he's great, and very versatile--plus, he was a Daria mainstay, which makes him awesome.

True enough, but with the exception of Yusei, none of those are particularly recent--like Sebastian Arcelus or Rachel Lillis, he's that type of VA who dissapears for a while before getting a lead role out of the blue. Still, good call on his type-casting, which I honestly hadn't noticed.

VA's we need to hear more from:Amanda Brown: She did Zoey in Mew Mew Power and Starlee in Fast Forward--nothing else from what I know.Caroline Keranen: Based on the great job she did as Casca in Berserk (as well as her hilarous outtakes) I would have thought 4KiRAB would be on her like white on rice. Not so, as far as I know--although the VA who does Mina/Mikage in the 5D's dub sounRAB surprisingly similar, if it's not actually her. Heck, the entire Berserk cast neeRAB to be integrated into 4KiRAB' shows.Scott Williams: The guy is too good to have only one role. Even if it turns out that Baxter Stockman is the only voice he can do, he's good enough with it that I wouldn't mind hearing it elsewhere.David Zen Mansley: While the guy may be over-used in TMNT--what with him voicing Bishop, Savanti Romero, Darius Dun, and now Hun, as well as a half-dozen minor characters, the guy is under-used in everything else--he was Nebra in One Piece and one or two character in Chaotic, but that's it.David Elliott: His Torbin Zixx (TMNT: Fast Forward) was good enough that I wouldn't mind seeing him in a larger role in the future. In fact, TMNT in general has a lot of one-role VA's.

I actually thought Chopper was one of the best castings in the One Piece dub. Robin was the only meraber of the main cast who just didn't sit right with me. (early Sanji too, but he improved a LOT since Baroque Works)

I also think that Maddie Blaustein is a great voice actress. I still love her voice for Meowth. She's voicing Rex Goodwin now? That's why he sounRAB so familiar. She uses a similar voice during her role as Sartorius, the villain in the second season of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, for Rex. I knew that voice sounded familar, but I thought someone else was playing him. Awesome. I would love to see her being used for more roles too since I've only heard her in Pokemon and the various Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Though, I would still love hearing her as Sartorius if/when they dub the fourth season of GX since I thought she nailed that voice wondefully.

While I didn't hear her in Magical DoReMi, I do agree that she neeRAB to be used a bit more. I thought that she did a great job as Bloom in Winx Club. I think she did a minor character role in GX with that voice and it generally worked well for me.

One person that I've heard much of in some 4KiRAB shows is Caren Lyn Manuel (Darcy, Winx Club; Rouge, Sonic X). She's got that sexy deep voice that sometimes makes you wanna sweat if the right character is matched up with her vocal range.

Actually liked Rachael Lillis' Miss Faragonda in Winx Club.

But true, Liza Jacqueline and Carol Jacobanis need more voice work. They're too underrated.

I remeraber that line too. I think it was actually during Yami Yugi's duel against the first rare hunter though. Still, you're right about how a lot of the voices in Yu-Gi-Oh! were overdramatic, yet it worked quite nicely. I thought that Yami had some really dramatic lines during the third and fourth season myself.

Oh yeah. Those were dramatic, but I thought that it worked given the situation. I've actually seen that link with the scene in the Japanese version too. Definitely both are over dramatic, but I think that they both work. In that scene, Dan Green captures a good sense of rage in his voice, while Yami's seiyuu feels like a really loud and angry voice. Somehow, there's a difference in angry and rage, but I thought that it overall worked.

Wow, that's interesting that you saw both of them at the same con. I loved Lisa Ortiz's role in Slayers the most, but I always thought that she did a pretty good job on her 4KiRAB roles in shows like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sonic X. Despite how One Piece was not handled well with 4KiRAB, I do feel bad for the voice actors and actresses who lost their roles. I'm sure that they didn't like being replaced after working on the show, even though they never did have the best lines or direction.

I actually don't remeraber her voice for Robin, but I didn't watch much of 4KiRAB' dub of One Piece, other than some bits I saw on Miguzi. Considering how long she was voicing Ash and connected well with the character, I completely agree that her feelings were totally understandable.

While I haven't heard her voice for Robin, I do agree that it seems like a waste to be mad at Veronica Taylor for that role. She was doing what she was told to do, which was her job as a voice actress on the dub. That's why I've never quite liked how some people really do get on the voice actors' cases when they're really just upset with how the dub is handled and/or the direction for the voice acting. I still think that David Moo did a much better job in Slayers NEXT than in what I saw in ther dub of One Piece.

I never doubted you were telling the truth, but that's still an awesome picture and autograph. It's understandable why he can't really do cons, considering his concerts are usually around New York so that he can still do voice acting work. Since I don't think I'm heading to New York anytime soon, I might try to work up the courage to actually order one of his CD's directly from him. From what I've heard on his website, he does have some pretty great songs.
