Opinion: Terminator 2 hasn't aged well

I'm sorry if I said it like that :)

To another poster - as for T1 looking dated, of course it does in it's way but it can be genuinely scary (the bit when the endoskeleton comes back out of the fire) - it's much spookier than the sequel, but both are classic, superb films.

memory plays tricks.
many of the dinos don't look that realistic now. many scenes are of animatronic dinos, i think much of the famous trex scene was mostly physical. from what i remember they mostly put in his legs:P

1995.

Yes, and the culture of 1995 was dramatically different to 1991. In fact I remember watching T2 in 1995, and thinking "Wow, this looks so dated!".

I don't see how "dated" is even a valid criticism. It was made in the 90's, and it's set in the 90's. And the 90's weren't all that long ago, and weren't particularly different in terms of hairstyles, fashion and culture.

Unless your comment is slightly more specific, and you're actually reflecting on the film-making style? I'm sure there's very little that Cameron would do differently if he made it today. Except he'd stick it in 3D.

The stunts are amazing, the CGI fine, the direction peerless. There are plenty of bad films to pick holes in. T2 isn't one of them.

No, I think that can happen when the technology doesn't really work or is pushed beyond what it is capable of. Then people may learn to see the flaws. Often, though, they will also see the flaws when it is first shown - I did with Jurassic Park, for example.

Some of the SFX in T2, eg doing a stunt on wires and then digitally removing the wire, are just flawless and will remain so. You can argue that later films will do bigger and greater wire stunts, but I don't think that diminishes T2. It's not become laughable.

Avatar did look good to me, but I've heard other people say the CGI did not look real to them so maybe it will be more like T1 and Jurassic Park than T2.

I concur wholeheartly with that as i still think its a classic for its time ..the problem is with todays cgis some people want something bigger , better, differant but as usually its the oldie films that leave todays standing in so many ways...i dont think T1 was taken too seriously at the time but was given cult status over the years but still a good film in its own right !the others like many sequels fall into the" lets make another film for money and forget about the script " category !

yea things rapidly advanced during the 90s, from almost no internet to a flood. even things like star trek the next generation look dated now so its just how it is.

Oh but he was. He would have shot dead 2 people if John Connor never got in the way. Remember the scene at the garage? Terminators are killers. That's what they're for.

He seems to have had quite a bit of work over the years since T2. I checked out his filmography on IMDB. It seems weird cos i haven't seen him in anything except T2.

Thanks, thats what I meant :) John Connor also tries to teach him as the film goes on - "You just can't go around killing people oK? Trust me on this".
Sorry about what I said to SE :)

Wasn't this the start of the great collapse in decent action movies, they went to the PG 13 brand to maximize profits. Just checking IMDB and movies like Predator and Die Hard got 18 certificates first time around.
