I love diving and it never stopped me. In fact, 3 months ago I went adrift off the coast of an Indonesian island. The current had carried 3 of us about 4km oRABhore in the wrong direction and the boat couldn't find us or hear us, even though we could see it in the distance. I had a weak ankle and after 40 mins of kicking to try and get nearer the boat, I had to stop, and drifted about 1 km further away from the other 2 divers, on my own. I have to say I did start panicking after an hour and a half on the surface in the baking heat, I had terrible sunburn on my hanRAB and had to float with my head in the water using my snorkel so my face didn't burn any more, but the water kept coming into the snorkel because of the waves, which was making me thirstier, and light headed. It wasn't a pleasant experience.
And the worst of it was that "Open Water" kept starting to pop into my head and I started imagining it happening to me.
But thank goodness we did get rescued in the end, and I still dive, but I do tend to stick around the divemasters more now...
