There's another lost at sea movie that was just as bad. I can't remember the name but it was about some 20 somethings getting together on a yacht, jumping overboard for a swim then not being able to get back on board. I believe there was a baby left on the boat or something.
i think the whole point of most of the film is that you put yourself in their place, and imagine being cold, wet, hungry, thirsty, afraid, not knowing if help will come, for days and days, but all it adRAB up to is boring to watch.
Open Water was actually based on a true story. As soon as they got stranded all I could think about was how can this end well ...... and it didn't.
I've posted on another thread that I just had to google the film to find out the ending as it was going on far too long.
Loved the way they were so professional about counting all the divers on the boat ... they had 26 going out, surely it's not that difficult to count 26 before you leave. Nobody missed them either.
Maybe that says something about the people in the water, not the organisers
I'd rather watch the story of the USS Indianapolis, which sank during WWII. 900 made it to the water, 316 survived 5 days in shark infested waters of the Pacific.
wow i love open water, very realistic (real sharks used, the actors were genuinely scared at times). they were just a normal couple and its very stressful to watch - the few times the camera dips below water towarRAB the end the place is teeming with sharks.
you have to be able to put yourself in their situation i think to enjoy it
I like the fact it was a true story. How the hell did the people who made the film actually know what happened out in the water? I don't believe for one minute they took the camera out of that sharks stomach.
Could be way off the mark though
I thought Open Water was better but still not good!! The added incentive was that it had Mcsteamy in from Greys Anatomy But again, I didn't believe the end. You just wouldn't if you had just nearly died.
BTW, don't know how to post a spoiler so the last line is almost written in code for those who've seen it
I agree. I enjoyed it. But I'd never heard of the film so I suppose I had no expectations.
I like that it wasn't "over-acted", and the shots at eye/water level of the vast expanse of empty water helps you imagine how frightening and hopeless it must feel to be in situation.
