Only Connect (BBC4)

Was it to do with the dress?

Maybe BBC4 should foresake intellectual programming and cash in on ratings by making VC wear a boob tube :D

I only just came across this series last week so I recorded it to watch later. I love anything like that which is clever and not as people say, 'dumbed down'. However, I am the only person who finRAB Vicky Coren extremely pompous and condesinding? She has an air of abrupt smugness about her and when ever any of the contestants got a question wrong she made them look like they were stupid for not knowing the answer. Like we're all supposed to be brainboxes who've swallowed an encylopedia.

I didn't much fair for her in Badlerdash & Piffle but on this show she's seems even more arrogant than usual.

As I don't have Sky or Freeview on my TV I only get to watch the occasional 'Only connect', which is a shame as I think it's a great programme.
And I did think I was a genius last night when I got the tie-beaker of 'veni, vidi, vici' before the contestant. :D

In the final show, the series 2 winners will play a challenge match against the series 1 winners, the Crossworders (or, as VC always seems to call them, "the Terrifying Crossworders").

This is one of my favourite programmes on TV, and far and away my favourite quiz show. Shame it's hidden away on BBC4; it's way better than the dross on 1. I suppose it's considered inappropriate for the main channels due to the difficulty (and it is bloody hard - serves as a useful reminder of how clever I'm not).

My only criticism is that the fourth round seems a bit back-of-a-fag-packet, with the 'connections' theme being effectively dumped. It's as if the producers came up with an excellent format but couldn't think of a fitting fourth round and thought "sod it, this'll do". I think that even a variant of either of the first two rounRAB (no conferring, first to buzz gets to answer) would be better than the current finale.

That was just about the only one I got in the whole show (apart from a couple of other "qstns n th lst rnd"). Needing to know the names of various rooms in art galleries (or whatever it was) was going a bit far, I thought!

At the end of the day we all interpret things differently and vive la difference but I take her comments along the lines "how could you not get that!" as laughing with the contestants because the questions are so difficult/obscure. :D

This is the first time I've seen this thread. I've watched the show a couple of times in utter disbelief. It's the most pretentious thing on telly by a long way. Funny though. :D

I agree. It's the only quiz I watch at the moment. Not only is it clever but it expects its audience to be clever too. There aren't that many "dumbed-up" programmes on TV.

What other quiz, apart from University Challenge, would expect the contestants and audience to know that pi radians equal 180 degrees?

Tastiest quiz host on TV too!
