One show 4Kids got right

I'm a big skeptic when it comes to redeveloping a series. For example i didn't like the idea of Nickelodeon aging the Rugrats to All Grown Up.

Yu-Gi-Oh was just flat out amazing when it came out. I was onboard when it started and I saw every episode of the first series. Then GX came around. Yes, you could definatley see the focus turning to little kids but it wasn't terrible. Still, I lost interest.

I was flipping through the channels over the summer and saw the 3rd season of GX on 4Kids. It was frigin sweet. I got my cards out and started dueling again. Then I heard about 5Ds. More importantly I found out that 4Kids isn't playing season 4 of GX. Hopefully Cartoon Network will even though Toonami is gone now. I thought 5Ds was going to be the stupidist thing Yu-Gi-Oh could have done. Why would you duel and ride your motorcycle at the same time?

Anyway I thought I would give it a chance like i did for All Grown Up and GX. The theme song blew me away. After seeing it I knew it was going to be great. The voice acting is superb (I'm excited that Tristen from the first series is back to play Yusei in this one). The story line so far is far exceeding my expectations. Now I can see why 4Kids wanted to hurry up and get rid of GX so that they could make room for 5ds. I think that its the smartest thing they've ever done programming and decision making wise...

Just to point something out, the cast of characters in GX weren't that much younger than Yugi and his friends when Yu-Gi-Oh! first started. They ranged from fifteen to seventeen, so I'm not sure if I would call them little kids.

While I am glad that you were interested again when season three of GX started and I do agree with you that 5Ds is great, especially the theme song, I don't think that 4Kids has gotten rid of GX. All of the emails that people have gotten them have said that they aren't dubbing season four for this season in favor of 5Ds. They also mention that that doesn't mean they'll never dub it. It's just not on the schedule in the near future. While I'm still kind of skeptic about this message considering the fact that it comes from a webmaster, a person who may not know full well of the dubbing status of 4Kids' shows, and that I haven't gotten any kind of message from them, despite how I've emailed them three times regarding the next season of GX, that still is the only evidence we have that proves that they're not completely dropping the series.

In all honesty, it would be a really weird move not to dub the last season since they've already done over a hundred and fifty episodes and not doing the last twenty four episodes feels weak to me. Yeah, they have 5Ds and its great, but I can't be the only one who would still like to see GX's last season in English. I would like some kind of conclusion that's better than the last episode of season three they aired, even though I've heard more bad things about the finale than good. Bascially, they haven't confirmed officially about what they'll do with GX season four. Until either something is mentioned by a person from 4Kids in a press conference or press release statement or a voice actor mentions something in a convention and gives us a plain answer, I'm going to go with that they will dub season four at some point.

By the way, I really think that this should go in the anime fourm. Sure, you're praising 4Kids for going straight for 5Ds, but that has more to do with anime than with general animation.

i put this topic here because of all the bashing that 4Kids is getting. i wanted to show that they actually are doing something right for a change.

Light Lucario-I would also like to see season 4 in english. Watching it in Jap just doesn't cut it for me. (o yea the endings pretty aweful by the way)

Wait, Yu Gi Oh is cool again? Dude! I dropped that 4 years ago when GX came out! I was always so intriged with their duels of the shadow realm. I wanted to get home from a theme park one day early so I wouldnt miss YuGiOh (that was before Tivo).

Ill have to check it out!

its compareable to the first season of Yu-Gi-oh way back when. The episode when Yugi unleashed Exodia on kaiba. I thought the 3rd season of GX was cool. 5Ds started out cool!

The new Yugioh series, man.

Basically, Domino has been split up into two factions - Neo Domino City (the evolution of Domino) and the Satellite (basically, the ghetto). Dueling itself has advanced, as players now ride on motorcycles while playing the game.

Mostly, the series focuses on Yusei Fudo, a man from the Satellite, and his association with Jack Atlas, the Riding Duel champion of Neo Domino.

They got a shoe right, but not this. The first two Yu-Gi-Oh! seasons were great (Pegasus's tournament and Battle City) But GX was awful. The show they got right? TMNT!

Are you kidding me? TMNT? They sent them into the future. How did they get that right. thats just silly.

5Ds is the recreate of Yu-Gi-Oh, minus the Millenium Items. It would be sweet if they brought jaden, yugi, kaiba, or anyone from the old series' to 5ds. I dout they will but some references would rock

Yeah, the motorcycles make the duels more visually exciting. It's awesome when a duelist rides upside down or when the duels happen during a chase scene.

I'd have to say, TMNT, before 4Kids decided to send them to the future. Things just went down hill from there, though things are suppose to turn around with BttS, we'll see.

I really don't think they did a bad job on Shaman King, in fact I think it was their best dub. It's just too bad it didn't perform as well as they wanted, and never got a complete DVD release. I still think 4Kids should have held on to the license for a little longer, because the show hasn't aired since the final episode was aired, it would kinda be a breathe of fresh air for 4Kids TV. Who knows, maybe it would've done pretty well this time. Not only that, but had 4Kids held on to a few more of their licenses they wouldn't be stretching themselves so thin right now trying to cover both FOX and CW blocks, as they'd have more shows in their catalog to cover the slots.

But, I also don't think they did a bad job with Sonic X either, the complaints about this dub are greatly exaggerated.

So, I'm giving it to Shaman King. If it wasn't for Fast Forward, it would have gone to TMNT.

Okay, I see where you're coming from. While I do like your reasoning, I still feel that this would fit at least a bit better on the animation forum than here. I'm pleasantly surprised that this hasn't turned into a flame war like some other 4Kids threads I've seen before.

I'm not surprised that you think that the ending is pretty bad too. I think I've only seen two or three people online actually liking the ending. Just so you know, I wouldn't use the term "Jap" to shorten Japanese since that's actually a racist term from WWII. I hope that I'm not coming off as rude or anything, but I thought it would be best if you knew that for future references.

I actually thought that season three and four were the best, or at least my personal favorites, out of the whole series. Of course, I actually enjoyed the filler arcs more than the cannon arcs. They seemed to provide more interesting character development and fun duels to watch than most of, if not all, the first and second seasons.

I also respectfully disagree with you about GX. Season one had some good episodes here and there, but it was overall the weakest season that series had. Once season two started, I thought that it did a much better job at both character development and the storyline. They were by no means perfect, but they were much better. Season three continued to have an even better and overall darker storyline. Despite that, I still have seasons two and three as being tied for the best. Season three had a better storyline, but it didn't focus as much attention to other main characters like season two did.

It does sound kind of weird, but it is a really good series so far. I wouldn't say its like a recreation of the Duel Monsters series since it's more like a spin-off, but it is a fun series to watch. If you go into with an open mind, then you could like it. Of course, it probably helps if you've liked Yu-Gi-Oh! before or currently do.

In terms of anime dubs, Shaman King was 4kids' greatest achievement. Solid english adaptation, good scripting, and they didn't skimp on the occult/spiritual aspects of the show. Most importantly, little to no splicing. I think all 64 episodes of the show aired, with the only cuts being for time or censorship. Which is how it always should be.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

Wasn't he some sort of weird eygptian king who possessed his reincarnation in the modern world through a triangle?

Anyway,I watched the show for a while but it's just a little too repetitive.
