...by it, am i liable? About a month ago I had a party at my house, and my friend was hosting it with me. He had biked over, and left his bike in my backyard, unlocked. At some point during the night, quite a few unwanted people showed up at my house, but I didn't let them in. Some of them were angry because of this, and took his bike from my yard, and put it in the neighbors yard, where it scratched their car. They weren't guests of my party, and it was not my bike either. Am I liable for the damages to the car?

I'm not a lawyer but they would probably charge your friend because it was his unlocked bike.

I would say no. It doesn't matter if they were invited to your party or not. It doesn't matter what the circumstances were, if you didn't do it you aren't responsible for the damages to your neighbor's car.

It is ultimately the responsibility of those who did the vandalism, as that is what it is, or the auto insurance of your neighbor.

Your neighbors should contact the police and file a report. You might also want give the police the names of those who could be responsible to show that you aren't involved and want to help in anyway possible.

I hope my answer helps you out!

Absolutely not liable. They vandalized your property and your neighbors property. Your ace in the hole is that they weren't your guests, after you didn't allow them in they were illegally trespassing on your property. Give your neighbor the dirtbag's names and let them go after them.

Your friend isn't liable because it was his bike either, if it wasn't the bike it would have been the grill, if not the grill it would have been a rock etc. It's absolutely, exclusively the person's fault that threw it at the car.

Since it happened on your property I would say so, but your homeowners insurance should cover the damages.
