One of my fish died is it safe to leave it in the tank?

I ha(d)ve 2 fish - Berneus and Mort - and one died (Mort R.I.P. UR SOUL IS IN THE BIG AQUARIUM IN THE SKY). They were very attached and I'm wondering if its safe to leave Mort in the tank so Berneus doesn't get lonely.
