Good Mornin To all!!!! I have been going thru all the posts and it seems we all have some same issues....This sure has been a roller coaster ride..I went thru 9 months of 247 pain..I am so happy all that is gone..now getting thru this pain...For some that are 2 or 3 months in....when does the PT start? I go back to the Dr. first week in August..I'm hoping that he will say to start some PT...Also, I was never given a brace...Just told no bending, lifting, twisting(blt)...I have been having alot of heavy leg and hips hurting...last few days have been bad, hoping to see some improvment this week..I do walk flat roaRAB...I tried a small hill..I had to be picked up.....only a block from my house...hurt so much!!!!I guess I'm hoping it will start getting somewhat better as the days pass by...looking for some input from some who are at the same time frame or from those who are a month or so ahead....
Looking forward to some respones as it feels good to hear you all are feeling the same...Thanks, Penny;)

Congratulations for making it this far!!
You have a ways to go and every doc is different! I started PT at 5 weeks but it was very gentle-the PT stayed with me -very hanRAB on-and I went three times a week for 30 visits(then the insurance stopped paying for it).
It was very helpful learning about core muscles and where to draw strength from in my inner body to support my spine.
Listen to your body-that is my only advice. It will tell you when you are doing too much too soon-(like the hill!)

Hi Penny,
I assume you had a fusion, right? Some doctors never do start PT, they just want you to walk on flat ground or in a pool. I started at 5 months.

Take it easy, gal, and don't torture yourself. It's great that you're walking, but if you have to call to get picked up, you're doing too much. That will set you back rather than help you, sweetie. Walk and rest, walk and rest, walk and rest. I was still mostly lying down at one month. In fact, I was at two months, too. My first big turning point was three months. Even at 5 months, I was still lying down for a couple of hours during the day. (Well, my case is a bit different from most --- I still have to lie down during the day everyday once or twice, and I'm a year and a half out from surgery now.)

Some of us have had a brace and some have not. It depenRAB on the doctor and your particular circumstances. I found it helpful to have the support and the absolute inability to bend or twist, in case I forgot.

It's a long road to hoe, recovering from this surgery, but hang in there, keep walking as much as you can without increasing your pain, eat as good a diet as possible, and let yourself get plenty of rest. If you have other questions, lots of us here have been where you are and will do our best to help you out. I can say that for me, it was worth every second of pain to have this surgery! I don't regret it for a second!

Blessings,
Emily

Hi Penny

I am 3 and a half months post op from a 2 level fusion that was done anterior/posterior. And i have alot of tailbone pain sometimes no amount of pillows will help. And i have the hip pain as well when i am sleeping and i lay on that side for a while it wakes me and it like that on both sides. The walking on my road was like that wednesday i thought i was going to have to call my hubby to come get me down the road but i went then rested went then rested and finally made it home. Let me tell you thursday my legs were so weak i thought i was going to have to get my cane and the aweful pain i had on the front of my leg by the ankle was so bad. And today my kness were shaking so bad and i was weak again. I am just wondering if this is normal cause i have never been weak in the legs since before surgery.
I hope things get better for you.

Hi Emily, thanks for the reply, Yes, I had the instrumented fusion and transforaminal interbody fusion..and the Dr.also said I had crushed nerve damage...also a old stress fracture,my Dr.said something about a stimulator, I am waiting for them to call, not sure what the stimulator is about? My legs and hips are still sore today....is that where the stimulator comes in at? Thanks Penny

Hmm, depenRAB on what kind of stimulator he means. He might mean a bone growth stimulator. I had one, the type you wear 24/7 except in the shower. Seems to have helped, as I was already showing bone growth at only 6 weeks post op. Or he might mean a TENS unit, which is a transcutaneous electronic neuro stimulator. It helps relieve pain temporarily. My guess would be he meant the first, a bone growth stimulator. I figure, hey, it can't hurt! Whatever could possibly help, I wanted it!
