One alpine 10'' or 12'' sub enough bass to sound nice?

I just got a 1999 grand prix the stock speakers sound pretty nice but i would like some more bass just wondering if one sub would be enough i was looking at a alpine 10 or 12'' dual coil 4-ohm sub and if u know a nice amp i can get that doesnt cost to much along with is it worth buying the box that costs 150 or a cheap 40 dollar box thanks...
