Gahh. This phone business is tough nowadays. Everybody has a blackberry or an Iphone it seems but as a Uni student who has to pay for his own bills and doesn't exactly receive many hours at work, I can't afford those plans. So alas, I'm stick with regular phones but I don't mind all I really need is unlimited texting and I'm set. BUT, I am liking these new touchscreen phones that are out there.

So what do you guys suggest? I've looked at a bunch over the last 2 days and I like the ones that have a QWERTY keyboard like the LG Xenon or LG Breeze. I've also looked at the Samsung advance which doesn't look too bad either but doesn't have the keyboard.

Thoughts?
 
They are all very similar and all will be lacking in features unless all you want to do is make calls and text.

These days I normally recommend just buying the phones as the discounts on "dumbphones" are terrible for the contract lengths.

After a quick look at dumbphones i'd probobly just by a Samsung Intensity for $129.95. or get the Samsung Advance $179.95.

If you are patient you could also upgrade to a Smartphone, remove data, then sell the phone used and buy the dumbphone (usually resulting in profit).

I'll give an example:

Buy Iphone 4 16 GB (if you can find one) on upgrade for $159.95 + tax.

Remove Data ($200 charge back).

Sell Iphone 4 = $650

Buy Samsung Advance = $179.95

= About $40 profit (assuming tax on top of purchases but not on selling Iphone4... might be able to sell for more?).
 
... University, talking about saving money here, not losing it all, right? If you have good coverage with everything, take a look at Virgin Mobile... It has an Android phone, and a BlackBerry phone, both with plans starting at $25 or $35 (and unlimited data). Now, the iPhone can't really trump that except by being an iPhone...

If you like the Xenon and Breeze, the Rumor Touch is a somewhat similar phone from the same company (Virgin Mobile) with the same inexpensive plans.
