On my flash drive, there are several files that won't delete.?

they are from a portable app (firefox). I was doing what they told me to do to uninstall it (just delete the files), but these files wouldn't delete. when i click on them, it says "Cannot delete file:Cannot read from the source file or disk". I tried renaming them, moving them, and deleting them and the same message came up. when i tried to compress them, it said: The compression cannot be preformed because the file or directory: e:/firefox/data/profile/α contains characters that compressor cannot store:α
 
try formatting the thumbdrive (only if it is empty!)
I had the EXACT problem this morning, only it was with more than one app - firefox, gimp, cdbxp, and filezilla portable. but I had it happen to me on my server and don't have the luxury of formatting.
