they are 42-622(700 x 40c-28 x 1 5/8(five eights)) and will a tube that says 700 x 28 /38c (27 x .75 /1.125) fit it please. Also do I have to specify presta valve? Thanks for your help its all Greek to me.

Look for an inner tube that includes 40 within its range. You want to get one that says something like 700x38-45, where 40 fits within that 38 to 45 range. You also need to match the valve type. If you have the European presta valve then that is what you need to replace it with. If it is the standard Schrafder valve like found on automobiles then that is the type you must get. A tube that says 700x28/38 will work, but it will be stretched thinner than what you desire. If flats are a problem consider a tire liner or a tube with sealant in it. .

your wheel size is 27X75 hence you need a Tyre or inner-tube of that size the value are given also in metric and the older imperial is the size we use in the uk 27 inches or 700 mil
