on mario kart wii, what does it mean if i unlocked the 100 cc karts and bikes?

I got all stars in the 100cc cups and it said I unlocked 100cc karts and bikes
I unlocked the same thing on 50cc and when i went on it i couldn't play with both karts and bikes

it means on 100 cc (medium skill level, less horse power than 150cc) you can race with a mix of karts and bikes.
