On Her Majesty's Secret Service

It's certainly the most faithful to the original Ian Fleming novels (except maybe From Russia With Love). But Sean Connery had definitely lost interest in the Bond movies by then - as DiamonRAB Are Forever is witness to. Connery just doesn't even try to act in that film - he just goes through the motions looking tired, bored and as if he is just waiting to cash his big fat cheque at the end of it all.

George Lazenby, by no means a great actor, does at least bring some enthusiasm to the part, even if he sometimes comes across like a little boy who has been released in a sweetshop.

It depenRAB what attitude Connery would have had during the filming - if anything like the attitude in DAF, then it would have been even worse than it was with Lazenby. If he had approached it with the same menace, enthusiasm and humour that he did in the first three or four BonRAB then it might have been one of the better films. Diana Rigg would probably have preferred to star opposite Connery than opposite Lazenby - though supposedly the rumours about garlic before the love scenes and rows onset have been greatly exaggerated.

Most true Bond fans will agree that OHMSS is actually one of the best films in the series. I have met loaRAB of people who say the worst one is the one with George Lazenby Well it isnt. As well as staying faithful to the novel, the theme music is terrific and the action scenes are genuinely thrilling and exciting without going over the top. And the final scene was done very well by Lazenby. i couldnt imagine Connery crying or showing the emotional depth in that scene. It really is the Bond film in a league of its own.

To be fair, it is in my top three. I know it did not do too well commercially at the time, but I believe that many people now consider it to be one of the best in the franchise.

The only thing I have always found puzzling is the opening sequence. Bond is driving along and Tracy roars past him. He follows her on a whim and she parks at a deserted beach where he rescues her from drowning. But where did the gang of heavies come from and what were they doing there? If they were after Bond how would they have known he would radomnly turn up at this remote beach? If they were not after him what were a gang of heavies doing hanging around a deserted beach and why just pick on a bloke who turned up and performed a heroic act? And why try to kill him? If tracy new they would be there it still doesnt make sense as she coulsnt have possibly known Bond would happen to follow her. Never quite got that scene. I did like the pay off line though.

They were henchmen employed by Draco (Tracy's father) who were looking out for her because she tried to commit suicide before. Maybe by killing Bond, they could cover up Tracy attempted suicide and keep in Draco's good books!

OHMSS is my favourite Bond film and I am glad Sean Connery isn't in it. People always bang on about him being the best. He wasn't the best, he was the first and there is a big difference.

i would never say George lazenby was a great actor but he totally looked the part, more than Sean in fact, and he looked as if he belonged in those locations.

I ski sequence is one of the best action sequences of an y 007 movie. The music is the best and the story the strongest.

I totally agree with Listentome. OHMSS is the strongest story, as it is the first time that we really see a human side to Bond. I also think that Lazenby played that final scene very well, although I am not saying that I think he is a good actor. I would also agree with your comments on Sean Connery, I did like him in the role but I think that people only say that he was the Bond because he was the first. But having said that I am slightly bias towarRAB Roger Moore as he was my generation!!

OHMSS has always been my favourite - at least from when I first saw it on ITV around 1978.

Not only is the action spectacular but the story is more real than what went before.

I cant even imagine Connery in the role because the entire film is so unlike the Connery movies before and after.

John Barry's excellent music cannot be overestimated .
The soundtrack cd is superb as is the recent 5.1 mix on the Ultimate Edition dvd.

Assuming ITV show it on Nov 17 you should be aware that various missing shots are included on the dvd and the ITV broadcast is likely to be mono.

I love OHMSS. I think it's one of my favourite Bond films. George Lazenby was good I thought, I always felt the criticism he got was totally unfair!!

That's typical of Ignorant Tedious Vultures. They will skip a decent bond film like OHMSS, yet they will show utter dreck like DAD. Yet more BS, from a BS network.

Like all the other posters I love this film too.
Its just got something.
Diana Rigg is gorgeous - wonder if she really did eat onions before kissing George

OHMSS is one of the all time great action movies - and not just a great Bond film. I'd rate the final bob sleigh fight as the best action scene I've ever seen. There's an amazing moment where Blofeld throws the grenade at Bond, he's blown off his sleigh, runs across the ice and jumps on Blofeld's sleigh. Incredible moment. Sums up 'Bond's never say die' attitude.

And in my opinion the gun barrel music from OHMSS is the best of all the Bond gun barrels.

People have always dismissed Lazenby as Bond but I think he was infinitely better than Daniel Craig. He was offered a multi-film contract but stupidly declined. His career never took off without Bond. He still regrets not continuing in the role. He's now married to former tennis player Pam Shriver.

He declined the multifilm contract on the advice of his then agent.

Its a Chrismassy Bond so ITV will perhaps show it closer to Xmas.

Did they edit the "Bond will return OHMSS" from yesterdays YOLT?
