On Her Majesty's Secret Service

On Her Majestys Secret Service is on ITV1 this Sunday at 4pm in HD. So this must be the first time it has been seen in HD as it wasnt part of the Sky HD season last year and is not yet on Blu Ray. Should look good in HD. Pity it will be cut to ribbons as its on ITV. I cant see the blood splattering scene being shown in HD.

General rule of thumb for me is if it is close to the book, I love the film;

On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Casino Royale
From Russia With Love
Dr No

Then again, The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill (despite it's TV-esque film quality) and Quantum of Solace were all good too.

Another rule of thumb; if it stars Brosnan, avoid.

OHMSS used to be the only Bond film ITV showed uncut as it was too long to edit into a 2 hour slot so they used to let it run for 2.5 hours.

Main bugbear will be the lost image by being shown in the wrong ratio.

By the blood spattering scene you mean the bit where the guy falls into the snow plough , thats never been an issue before.

The only cut that seems hit and miss is the pre credits shot of Diana Rigg having a knife held to her throat.
Sometimes its in , sometimes its out.

As its HD I'll have a quick look but it neeRAB to be on for about 2.75 hours if ITV intend to show it complete.

The safecracking scene that was an ITV exclusive and missing from VHS releases until 1993 is ironically an easy scene for them to chop if they want to squeeze it in to a shorter slot

The best Bond film ever. I love the fight scene at the beginning on the beach. The music march in it is brilliant. Okay George was inexperienced - but he doesn't do a half bad job at the acting part - he is brilliant in the fight scenes.

Sadly George never recovered from dumping Bond!
