On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Cant help thinking that poor George was
hard done to by critics and public at the time.
Its an ok movie and George carries it
off very well.
Maybe the public could nt stomach the idea
of Bond.... an archetypal British hero, being
played by an Ozzie ?
Diana Rigg was at her gorgeous best
back then too.

I actually like it, and don't find it as turgid plot-wise as some of the preceding efforts tended to get bogged down in. I think it benefits immensely from no Connery, because your focus is returned to the film as a whole rather than on him. And of course Diana Rigg is always commandingly fabulous.

Having read the book i thought the film itself was one of the best bond films ! and Dianna Rigg was brilliant in it! ...pity that George Lazenby was nt the best Bond but he did his best ..great film though !...and song !

Best Bond film by a mile .
As posted above , unforgettable score .
I have it on cd and its great.

Sold all my Bond dvd's a couple of years ago to get the Blurays but got so fed up of waiting I bought OHMSS on dvd again a little while back in readiness for Xmas viewing

Got to hand it to Ian Fleming, he must have
learned a lot in the war about the international world and how it works,
then in the 50s and 60s put all his
knowledge into spy thriller books and
created a whole world of Bond... books,
movies , TV shows.

I think TV like the Avengers was inspired by the James Bond genre too.
Ian was thrilled for his books to be made into films.... although he did nt live long after.

I think its a measure of how much better OHMSS is than every other Bond film before and after that the film is held in such acclaim by Bond fans despite Lazenby.

To be fair to George , he was only a model at the time and had never done acting.

Apart from a few scenes I think he did very well and his action scenes more than made up for his shortcomings.

Roger Moore was hardly a better actor was he?

Decent story , incredible action , not too stupid and an unbeatable score put OHMSS at the top of many Bond fans lists.

Bluray please

all the time in the world.... yes a wonderful
song by John Barry... he must have made a fortune from the Bond movies !

cant help feeling though that theres a pattern in these movies.... Bond checks into the office in London... all very prim and proper... then he high tails it to the south of france... to the casinos... the palm trees.. the fast women... the warm summer nights !

Was nt the Saint basically the same idea too.... Simon Templar..... a British hero fighting crime on the Cote d'azur !

Many people feel Lazenby's portrayal is the definitive Bond, and the closest to the Fleming character. I just don't like it though, I really don't. I guess I go for the more formulaic movies of the Moore era. It's just my age, and the Bond I loved as a child.

i dont really blame Lazenby, i blame the producers, he might have been a model, then why use him for a role like that? i felt a bit sorry for him cause he was out of his depth, he just had no on screen charisma, as hard as he tried. he was like some normal bloke getting dragged off the street to play James Bond.

he made roger moore look like Brando

but like you say, it shows how good the film was in the way people love it anyway, dispite its flaws. i can see its highly regarded for a reason, its just i laugh my arse off when i watch it cause George is so bad, his voice and accent seems to change every 5 minutes lol

George was shafted/ignored/not appreciated by everyone who thought Sean Connery was the man and anyone else was sacrilege.

Geroge was a great Bond who never got a chance to be excellent. One film is not enough no matter what people think. It took 2 or 3 until Connery was cemented as Bond. If Connery had left after Dr No, would anyone have said he was the perfect Bond?

Director Chris Nolan has said Inception is his OHMSS Bond film. Can't quite see much similarity although I haven't seen Inception. I don't think OHMSS has any dream sequences!

He's a big fan of Bond films and I believe his favourite one is OHMSS. I think it's possible he may direct one in the future. You never know. ;)

An underappreciated film, though more people seem to warm to it as time passes. Lazenby isn't as bad as people say, especially considering he had no acting experience. He was perfect in the final scene.

I know many feel it would have been better with Connery, but I can't see how. He was so bored with the role by that point, and it showed in both You Only Live Twice and DiamonRAB Are Forever.
