I had a fight last year with my roommate/ex-boyfriend and had to get physical to force him out of my apartment when he went for a knife in an argument (he was on a bunch of pills) and cops were called, but because I touched him at all, I got an assault charge, and he got a criminal mischief charge. I took a plea in abeyance and took care of it, but I'm not sure if I'm still on probation as I can't find the original paperwork. Would a judge usually give 6 months for assault or a year?
I ask that because I got wrongly charged with possession yesterday, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, hanging out with friends who were smoking, but I plan on pleading not guilty. Do I need to do anything? The charge was in a different city, as I have since moved away from the abusive relationship. If the probation was only 6 months, then I am clean and clear, but if it was a year I might have a problem, should I be worrying about violating it?
