On a Trek Soho S bike, if i add gears to it will the frame bend and is it worth it?

i want to buy this bike, but it is a single speed, and i perfer gears, and my friend, who is a bike whiz, told me that the frame might bend, would this happen if i do add gears? and is it worth it to add gears?
 
I may not be a bike whiz, but I don't understand how this could possibly bend the frame.

The Soho is available with an internally geared rear hub. Without a derailleur hanger, you may have to go with internal gearing.

Or better yet, why not just buy the geared version? Unless this is a used bike at a below-market price, this second option would be cheaper.
