...box or hydrolic something? Like I said the steering seems as if on most cars would be the gear box. Is the intrepid have a different system, reason I ask is because the steering wheel will rotate easy with the car off. Now when driven seems to be major play in wheel? Please respond, thank you.

it has a rack and pionion steering system. you will have to see if it is in the rack and pionion or in the steering coloum

it's loose on the inner tierod ends where they meet the rack at the very back of motor in the middle. intrepids were notorious for this..

it could be rack mounting bushings i have replaced them b4, or tierod ends or ball joints

well easy to check by jacking it up an dholding tire left to right and shake it if you feel slack look under car and shake it and see what moves wil be bad or hold tire top to bottom and shake it if there is slack left to right coul dbe gear box or rack bad check your fluids or belts give car a good shake down even spend some money and have it check dont cost much to have it check and thats way better than somehting breaking loose and you hitting a pole or a wall
