OMG, this F@#$ing device (n97 mini) continues failing epically!!! (rant)

I can't take this crap. I want my $400 back!!!

Recently, with high hopes for relief and reliability, I upgraded my n97 mini to v12. Well, all I can conclude (and I guess all I could expect from Nokia) is that nothing got fixed, but some things got broken!

BT is still load of shhh... junk. I was just driving today, listening to the podcast streaming over BT. A phone rang... and it would not transfer to car BT (nokia ck-7w)!!! It was only working in handset! (and not even loudspeaker). I hung up and low and behold - podcast is streaming through bluetooth! I tried it 3 times (calling) but could not transfer the call to BT (even though EVERYTHING ELSE - music, ringing transferred fine!). Had to reboot the device before I could make a normal phone call over BT. This c@rp is soo unstable and useless.

On top of that the lates fw. effed something up with the display. Something gets "stuck" when you try to click, and after that nothing else registers. You can "drag" the display and icons/lists up and down (like you would normally scroll, except the kinetic doesn't work then) but you cannot click on anything. When you try to click, it actually scrolls 2-3 lines down and that's it! Again, only solution is reboot. It is very interesting that this problem was introduced by nokia in the latest firmware as I have never seen it before. It's like they decided that there are not enough bugs in the system and introduced some new ones. How pathetic.

Overall, Nokia owes me $395 + S/H and apology. This is truly an epically failed device. I'm 100% with SymbianGuru on this one... END RANT

Take out the SIM, sell the phone, and move on.

If I didn't follow my own advice I'd still be using my all-time favorite POS, the 3Gs...:hurl::bash:

I had a similar problem with unresponsiveness on my 5800, i would be running a java app e.g Opera Mini,if i had auto keylock on and lets say i was watching tv,i open Engadget or DailyMobile, open an article, then maybe something distracts me on tv for over a minute, the phone autolocks, thats fine, i then go back to the phone, unlock, carry on browsing then decide i want to listen to Music, open Music Player and BAM no response, wtf? open another app and again after opening no response, its like the only app thats responsive is HandyTaskman and Opera Mini, those that were open BEFORE keylock. Was such an odd bug i must say,and it happened once in a while even without auto keylock, had another friends 5800 do the same to, very odd, anyway strange things like that happening way too often even after fw updates chased me away from symbian. Hope S3 fixer these little odd things that can realy get frustrating.

gonna upgrade mine to V12 now... if they actually fix the ringtone consistency and improve my dropped calls I'll be happy!

I've been getting stuck screens here and there in V11 anyways :)

Good luck. That's what I thought, new firmware can't possibly render the phone useless, right?

Well, it arrived at Palco yesterday... And then is off to classifieds/craigslist/ebay...

I won't call it the worst phone I used... my biggest issue is the dropped calls/graphic loading up with incoming calls tending to give the phone fits... And that's pretty critical, the phone has to work, they can't forget the primary function of the phone. making/taking calls. In terms of that, it's not the worst I've used but I can't call it good either since my N95-1 was better.

Next one would probably be the fact that filling up the memory with messages/emails/pictures is not a good idea if you're looking for speediness in those apps. Ok I can't load a whole bunch of stuff at the same time ok... I don't do a lot of media stuff but that doesn't make it ok to suck at those either.

so far, the forever in beta never updated anymore photo browser app seems to doing better with my 700 pics after the update. Main photo browser takes a while to open but once open it does seem faster to go through the pics, opening/rotating, anyways, can't review this stuff in one shot, gotta evaluate it over a few days.

I also had a problem with tne N97 mini. The battery door is not made of good quality. The move of closing the battery door will just shutdown the phone.

It was mentioned somewhere previously but watch out for the damage the door causes to the battery and check that the metal case might be shorting out the battery. Hinge side.

Some put a piece of tape to "repair" the damage to the battery.

Wow....I am actually stunned that people are having these kind of problems with their N97 Mini. I have had mine for almost 6 months now, & other than the default r/t playing instead of the customized one, (but it was fixed with FW v.12), I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

In all honest, this might be the best Nokia I have used except for the E71. Just curious though about the people having issues, are you running a NAM FW?

I have 2 N97 Mini's, one from Sweden, & another from the UK, & the FW & applications run very smooth.

My Mini is great, but I use it more for the design than anything else...the call quality is absolute trash, and it drops signal like crazy. Oh, and my GPS takes FOREVER to get a lock..

...anyone have any suggestions regarding the GPS issue? Perhaps me changing my product code/FW a while back screwed with something?

Are you even having problems getting a GPS lock outside?

I know that on my Mini's, if I am trying to get a GPS lock indoors, it does take a few minutes.

Outside for me can take a very long time as well, especially if I have it set to walk mode. Huge pain, but I suppose one can't complain about something that is considered "free."
