OMG My surgery is next week!!!!

I heard from the scheduler today. My surgeon had an opening next week, and if I didn't take it it would be 2 months, so I took it. I am having a panic attack right now. I am so glad I stopped taking Vicodin a week ago. So it is next Sat at 11:30. I need to be there at 9:30 am. It is a two level fusion and the surgeon is estimating it will take 4 hours. I thought it would be longer because my one level lasted 3 hours. I am so scared.

I know! I was surprised that he had a Saturday opening as well. The scheduler told me he doesn't usually do Saturdays, but he opened it up for some reason. I think my guardian angel told him to do it;) So I could get in so soon.

I wish you the best! I am in a similar situation, I have been told I need revision surgery and am waiting to find out when it will be. The worst part is waiting. I was in the pre-op room for my last surgery and I told my Ortho..."lets get this show on the road"!!!!

If your guardian angel opened it up, then you're certainly in good hanRAB!

It makes sense that the two level wouldn't take all that much longer. A lot of time goes into carefully getting to the area and closing it back up. Once they're there, they can do as many levels as necessary.

Is your home ready? Is your brain ready?! Are you getting your head wrapped around this? It's happening so fast, but it will be SO good to just get it over with! Let us know how you're doing!

Love ya!

Thanks everybody!

I am terrified, but at the same time in the mood to do it and get it over with. I PRAY this will be it for me and I will get my life back. I can't stand being in this much pain all the time. It's going to be so different this time, and I am not sure if this will be good or bad. I am with a different surgeon who should be better, 2 levels are being fused instead of one (including revision of first fusion), he is only going in through my back ( last time was a 360), I have to wear a brace for 3 months (last time nothing), and I start PT at 6 week! My old surgeon thought PT was silly, as well as discograms. I am a little nervous about pain control because all of the surgeons around here are only allowed by law to prescribe pain meRAB for 6 weeks, and it seems that many if not most need them for longer, up to 12 weeks. I am nervous about getting my walking in since it is bitter cold and icy outside. The nurse wants me walking 1 mile a day by 6 weeks post op. I just have a feeling this will fix me. I hope I am right.

I think the less time you have to dread it the better. Especially since already having one you know what is in store for you.

I had a one level then also a two level later and since the first went very very badly, I can say the second 2 level was much easier.

I wish you luck and pray GoRAB hanRAB guides the surgeons and you are well n your way to a speedy recovery.

Good luck and best wishes are sent your way and I hope for a speedy recovery for you. When you are feeling up to it please let us know how you are doing. Any surgery is scary but it sounRAB like you are in good hanRAB.
