OMG- Just watched "Grotesque" (The banned uk film)

Perhaps they misunderstood the success of the so-called "torture porn" genre. A lot of critics misunderstand it, and maybe some film makers believe the critics.

I watched the film over the weekend, and like many others, found out about it after reading it was banned on the news.
I didn't really find it shocking and most of it has been done plenty of times before, but I can understand how they banned it.
Gore wise i've seen worse, although I cringed during the
nail in the bollocks scene

Like everyone else, I acquired it after reading it had been banned.

I remember the good old days of the 1980s when you had to resort to fourth generation VHSs to see banned movies.

Those days, though, it was Tenebrae, Zombie Flesh Eaters and The Beyond that we sought out.

Today, it's a boring piece of crap. Waste of time. Not entertaining at all.

Exactly. This movie is easy enough to get from Interweb land, but why bother. Unless you're Ian Brady, there's no entertainment here.

Those who enjoy a bit of gore, when there is a proper plot, excellent effects and good acting, are highly recommend to see 'District 9.'

If the BBFC rejected the film because of prolonged sexual violence (though they don't actually say why they rejected it, damn them!), then why did they let the similarly riddled with sexual voilence "Deadgirl" through untouched? I wish they were consistent, at the very least.

I also wish they had the balls to put in writing precisely why they make the descisions they do, supposedly on our behalf. Saying why they decided something doesn't mean it's up for debate with anyone. It just means we're all more informed as to why they did what they did.

Watched it myself 2 nights ago, after finding out it was banned, made a note to find it (wonder how many more will do that).
And gotta agree with most of statements here, its just gore all way through, with very little storyline.
Enjoy a nice gory film but still neeRAB to have some direction, this film imo makes the saw films look like oscar material.
And i do love them, just got round to watching saw 5 this week also, and yes its no where as good as first 3, but it does have an attempt at a plot, albeit thin one lol

Funny thing is by banning grotesque, more people will probably watch it than would have done without the banning

I find it funny how this boring movie has gone from being something destined for a late night showing on zone horror, with about 10,000 viewers maximum,to a cult classic. Thanks to the intelligent folks at the BBFC.

A lesson to be learnt from this; if any of you plan on making a ultra low budget movie - go out of your way to get it banned. You can then stream it online and make much more money than you would have done. You can then write a letter of thanks to the BBFC!

The BBFC normally put up a detailed synopsis of why they handed out the rating that they did after a few days. Keep checking the 'Grotesque' page on their website.

What I don't understand is how on earth the BBFC think that in this day and age banning a film outright is going to do anything but make more peoples mind up to see it however they can. I could maybe understand them banning films in the 80's and 90's because it was so much harder to get hold of copies of films in those days, but as has been attested to on this board, everybody who has wanted to has managed to find a copy to watch either legally or illegally within 48 hours of the film being "banned". Had they not banned it it would have been shown in about 20 cinemas nationwide for about 3 days and then crawled out on dvd a few weeks later, to be forgotten about and to be found in the bargain section of all dvd retailers 3 weeks after that.

All the BBFC has done by doing this is to give the film the worlRAB greatest and free advertising campaign, and ensure that it will be seen by probably 100 times more people than would have seen it in the first place.

You don't know what you're talking about. I apologise for my tone, but it really gets on my nerves when people say things like that.

Do you honestly believe that in days gone by Grotesque would've been granted release? Film censorship is WAAAAAY looser than it used to be. Political correctness has absolutely sod all to do with the BBFC banning a film for violent content.

According to the Dail Star this film will send anyone who watches it insane.
So does that mean the BBFC have now been institutionalised?
Id never heard of it before, but thanks to the BBFC, ill watch it to see what all the fuss is about.
ill prob be disappointed.

Made a cheap exploitation film?
Cant afford a marketing stratergy?
Hopefully the BBFC will take exception and ban it.
MORONS-they just dont get the word "irony" do they?
BTW for you "downloading" fans out there, its freely available.
This prob isnt even illegal now, thanks to the censors, as we cant BUY it, so were not depriving anyone of any revenue.:)

You need to download a movie either by torrent (eg find torrents via a site such as sumotorrent) through a torrent downloading programme (e.g vuze).Or though a website such rapiRABhare.

(note: this is illegal unless the file you are downloading is in the public domain)

You then need a programme (eg that will convert the video file to ISO and burn it to a blank dvd). There are hundred's of these.

Nonsense. If you went back to the fifties, which wasn't exactly "PC heaven", you'd find that some of the tamest films now would get censored. Back then, you couldn't show the actual colour of blood, you couldn't show the gore that you get in films now, nor could you show any sexual acts, let alone swear.

I do agree that the BBFC shouldn't be nannying us to the extent that they do, but to say there was some golden period in the past where films like Grotesque weren't censored is laughable.

I kind of want to see this because they banned it, but at the same time don't want to because it sounRAB a bit rubbish and depressing.

I like gore with a bit of humour. Braindead is excellent. So is Evil Aliens. This sounRAB pants though.

Although a council could go against the BBFC wishes and have it screened in the cinema I doubt any will.

The content sounRAB like it could be a borderline case of breaching the Obscene Publications Act so any council that shows it might get taken to court by the nutters and it may have content hard to defend.

But must get the dvd from the US when it comes out
