OMG I can't wait for Avatar! ;)

Considering it's sold out on opening day across various cinemas including IMAX cinemas just proves the haters wrong.

Plus, one of you likes TWILIGHT which has got 4 or below out of 10 in EVERY REVIEW SITE POSSIBLE.

So yay for Avatar

You missed my point completely. Well done. I have no issues with CGI so, one can safely state that I'm 'over it' I just don't see how the visuals are genre defining.

Also (as stated above) comparing the visuals to say, Toy story is difficult, because where you see UBER3DOMGGFX I tend to see a technological show case, void of soul, and in that sense it compares very badly to Toy story. each to their own though, and of course, I have yet to see the film, so I may be wrong, although that's rare.

Yeah, but my point was that Halo wouldn't exist without Aliens, and this is where the argument that "it looks like Halo" fails. Seeing as Aliens was made by Cameron, surely he's ripping himself off with Avatar rather than ripping off Halo (or the thousanRAB of other games that have copied Halo since it's release). We expect similar things from all directors, for example Martin Scorsese has done numerous gangster films which all feature a similar visual style and theme, and yet nobody complains when he announces he's doing Gangster Movie #1000 because we all know that he does films in that genre so well. Doesn't Cameron deserve the same benefit of the doubt when he's doing a sci-fi film? Especially when these pools of sci-fi cliche's were originally his ideas in the first place.

I've got my ticket for Thursday the 17th, but who knows i may end up hating it myself, but at least i'm giving a chance rather than writing it off after 2 short trailers and justifying my hatred with lame excuses like some people have done...

Firstly - sales figures prove nothing - look at X-Factor singles etc.
These days big hype makes big opening sales - longevity is the key to success.

Secondly, 'haters'? A bit strong.
Opposing something or not being very positive is a bit different to 'hating' something.

Thirdly, there is no 'good or bad' nor 'right or wrong' in art, music and film etc.. There is only personal taste, and that will always differ from person to person.

I cant wait for this film to come out because it will be one of the biggest flops of all time, James Cameron went to far with this film.

I take it the same applies for those people saying how good this film is going to be and some even saying its going to be the best film this year, lets all wait people. :D

Which everyone surely will in time. This thread is more about people's expectations going by the trailers and tv slots. I thought that was pretty obvious...

Indeed, I'm reserving judgement till I see it. Still it didn't stop me booking my tickets to see it on the weekend it comes out at the IMAX. :D

Couldn't agree more and am not particularly impressed. Sadly it hasn't made me believe this film is a 'must see' and that is coming from someone who loves science fiction and is a big fan of Camerons early work. However just because you made great movies 20 years ago doesn't automatically mean you still can unfortunately.
