Roses are red,
Violets are blue
F*ck Harry Potter
And Twilight too.

Seriously, this is getting way too out of hand. I for one am astonished that such pathetic attempts at literature are the ones that people get obsessed with. And then these idiot teens feel compelled to advertise it all on Answers. Every time some stupid series comes out, the IQ of the entire country slips a few more points.

I propose that the community band together and, in response to every superficial question mentioning Twilight etc, we post a list of alternatives to that swill. Books and authors such as:

Anne Rice
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Vonnegut
The Kite Runner
The Count of Monte Cristo
Hemingway
Thomas Pynchon
T.C. Boyle
John LeCarre
The Phantom Tollbooth (for even younger readers)
etc....

Good idea, no?

No, it isn't.

1) Insulting people's taste in books is not likely to change it. Rather, it's likely to get ignored if they're mature. If they're not, it's likely to get you an email filled with swearing, insults, and netspeak.

2) Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Twilight haters do, but so do Twilight fans.

3) Why do you care if people like Twilight, anyway? It's their business. Explain to me why you care.

4) There are a lot of different ways to be smart besides having good taste in books. I know this sounds cheesy, but I have known plenty of intelligent Twilight-lovers, and plenty of not-so-smart Victor Hugo fans.

5) And honestly, while the continuous "Edward vs Jacob" questions are getting to be a pain in the a$$, I'm beginning to wonder if Twilight haters aren't just as bad. It seems to me like some of them (not all, but some) seem to just go to Y!A to post rude answers to Twilight fans. Now that can be funny, but it annoys me, especially if they don't answer the question. Seriously, it's Y!Answers, not Y!Twilight-Fans-Vs-Twilight-Haters.

If you're sick of Twilight, don't click on Twilight questions. It's what I do, and take my word for it, it takes MUCH less time and energy than posting rude responses or rants like this one.

Haha, I like most the things you listed. It's nice to hear every once and while I'm not alone on the popfic hating.

Potter is written poorly, so is Twilight. I'm reading Twilight now and I have to say, I do sort of feel my brain deteriorate as I read. I think the reason they go on for 500 pages is because they don't know how to write WELL and CONCISELY. If I hear one more time about the freaking clouds I'm going to burn that book and stomp on the ashes.

PS The Phantom Tollbooth, yes! What ever happened to, you know, good books? After reading Twilight for so many weeks I picked up Kafka at a used book sale and it was like a sensual explosion.
